Update on That Crazy Man I Love {and Honey Do List Printables}
It’s been so long since I updated you all on how much I love my husband that I thought I would give you an update on him and his current situation and then I also made these really fun Honey Do List printables that you can download for free to keep your honey busy, too!
The last time I talked about Howard much on the blog was when I listed out 100 reasons I love my husband. Go ahead and catch up with the 100 reasons now so you understand this post a little better. I’ll wait…
Okay, so now you know how much I love that crazy man and my little family and you’ll understand why I’ve been so worried about this man in the past few months (really, about a year). You see, a while back Howard was having trouble breathing and we took him to the doctor. It was not our regular doctor because he was on vacation, but this new doctor took an x-ray of Howard’s lungs and found nothing…in the lungs. Instead, he came back all worried because Howard’s heart appeared enlarged and he had a Left Branch Bundle Block. Howard has a history of heart failure when he was 24 years old (a story for another time) so we had to take this seriously. He was referred to a cardiologist and started on a medicine, Coreg, that he had taken back then to strengthen his heart.
Fast forward to the cardiologist appointment and he was referred for the gamut of testing – stress test, echocardiogram, EKG, etc. He, of course, failed the stress test and we found out he had a 34% ejection fraction. He was sent for a heart cath and there was no blockage (yay!) but that just meant we still didn’t know what was wrong. The cardiologist told him that he would stay on the heart strengthening medicine, increase his diuretic medicine, and told him to lose weight. Oh, and he also went through a sleep study and failed it so he’s using a C-PAP machine for sleep apnea now.
Fast forward again and Howard went through weight loss surgery on 8/17/15! He had the gastric sleeve surgery and he’s been doing really great. He has lost 90 pounds already! However, toward the end of his WLS, his heart went into a bad rhythm and the doctors had to pump him up with more diuretic to get rid of the fluid they had to put in him for the surgery. He was “okay”, but he had to spend a little extra time in the hospital, but he appeared to be doing well. When he was laying down, his blood pressure would rise quite a bit, but the doctors weren’t overly concerned when they released him and told him to see his cardiologist right away. Luckily, we already had an appointment scheduled.
The cardiologist decided he would put Howard on a heart monitor for two weeks to see if the rhythm would return and when Howard put that on, we learned we were dealing with a much bigger problem. In one weekend (he started the monitor on a Friday) the cardiologist received six calls and we were told to come into the office that following Monday. By Monday afternoon, we were in Tyler at a rhythm specialist office being told that Howard may have something more serious and they wanted to do an electrophysiology test that week. Basically, they go into your heart (like a heart cath) and shock different areas to see if there are any bad rhythms. So, by that Friday, we were in the hospital again for this test and I got the scariest call while waiting in the room.
During the testing, they found a lethal rhythm (ventricular tachycardia) and Howard needed a defibrillator right away. They had given us a little heads up that the defibrillator was a possibility, but I think that neither of us really thought that would happen. Well, it did. Howard was in testing and surgery for four hours and woke up with a defibrillator for the rest of his life. We were both just a little freaked out.
So, needless to say, Howard had to quit his job (after being out for knee surgery, WLS, and the defibrillator) and he’s home now taking care of the household. He hasn’t ever been responsible for the household chores before (even though, I must admit he has done a great job lately) and he might need a little guidance from time to time. He’s always said that if I needed him to do something, that all I have to do is make him a list.
So, here you go, “honey”, here are my Honey Do List printables. I hope you’re ready for it!
