Enjoy a quick and easy dinner tonight with these fresh steak gyros. I’ll even give you the recipe for the tzatziki sauce featuring Hidden Valley Ranch Cucumber and fresh dill! These will definitely make it into your dinner rotation.
This past weekend, my little family took a little trip. We decided to get out of town and away from the craziness that is our life. We spent the night in a hotel only an hour away from our house and then we went on to Dallas the next morning for a day full of fun and another night in a hotel. We ate out every meal (except for the hotels’ free breakfasts) and we spent a lot of money. This week we are back in business and refreshed from our time away so we decided we were back to eating at home and eating on a budget. These steak gyros were our first attempt at a quick and easy dinner idea to change things up from our typical baked chicken and veggies that we default to when we try to eat at home.
What you’ll need:
Pre-seasoned steak fajita meat
Shredded lettuce
1 tomato
1 white onion
3 small lemons
2 tsp fresh dill
1 bottle Hidden Valley Ranch Cucumber
1 pkg pita bread
2 tsp fresh garlic, chopped
What you’ll do:
Cook the pre-seasoned fajita meat according to the package instructions. To make the tzatziki sauce, blend the Hidden Valley Ranch Cucumber with the fresh dill, garlic, and lemon juice until fully blended. Benjamin wanted to help so he combined all of the ingredients into the blender and then Daddy did the actual blending. Once you have the sauce and the meat is cooked, just build your gyros with your favorite toppings. Benjamin and I don’t like tomato and onion and he doesn’t like lettuce, but Howard likes it all. We each built our gyros to taste and loved every bite.
We found everything we needed for our steak gyros with tzatziki sauce at Kroger where Howard works. We are especially excited about the new flavors of Hidden Valley Ranch that we found while shopping. The new flavors include Avocado, Cucumber, Roasted Garlic, and Sweet Chili and I think Howard has a recipe idea for every single one of these flavors. We love quick and easy meals (as you well know if you follow my recipe posts at all) so here are a few ideas: Sweet chili – Asian pot stickers, Avocado – Fajita chicken wrap, Roasted Garlic – margherita flatbread. Those do look yummy. I am trying to expand the kids’ palates a little, and I think this would be a wonderful start to eating Mediterranean food.
