Days 6-10: So Much to be Thankful For
You guys, I blew it! I signed up for NaBloPoMo for November and promised to post about what I am thankful for each day…and then I got sick on Wednesday. Then I got sicker. By Saturday, I could not leave my bed and I was writhing in pain. I was a sweaty, chilled to the bone mess. When my fever hit 103.1, we headed to the hospital to find out that I have pneumonia. Bummer!
So, I’ve fallen behind on my #CrazyThankful posts, but I’m here to catch up and get back on track. I hope you’re enjoying the series because it’s been fun to write…even if it sounds tedious and I’m up late at night writing. It’s nice to list out my blessings rather than focus on my depression for a change. I feel blessed. I am blessed. I hope to bless you all with my thankfulness and good cheer…despite my gap for pneumonia recovery.
Day 6 – I am thankful for my little family and the fun we have when we’re just being us. We love to laugh and play games. We love to see movies and sit in bed and watch TV. We love to get out and about and go to the park or to the arcade in town. We are a fun family and I am thankful to be a part of it. On Friday, we went to see the Peanuts movie and I was sick as a dog! It was a cute movie and I hope to have some printables for you soon about the movie!
Day 7 – I am thankful for my husband (yes, him again!) for entertaining my boy all day on Saturday when I was so, so sick. Benjamin had a cardboard car derby with the Boy Scouts (more on that later!) and he was supposed to have two soccer games. It was the worst time for me to be sick, but it was rainy and cold outside and I couldn’t make myself get out of bed. Howard took it all in stride and was ready for the day. He jumped out of bed and had the boy busy all day long! My husband has to be my biggest blessing in life.
Day 8 – I am thankful for modern medicine and the hospital ER in Palestine for taking care of me. I walked into the ER on Saturday barely breathing and with a fever of 103.1 and they whisked me (along with Benjamin because Howard had to run home for his wallet) back to the room for x-rays and blood work and a flu test. It was only minutes before they were back in taking more blood work and telling me that I had pneumonia. I walked out after having antibiotics, steroids, and a breathing treatment, feeling much better and had a note to be off work until 11/12 for recovery.
Day 9 – I am thankful for a day job that allows me to be off work when I need to and not worry about what’s going on at work. I know that there is work to do there, but my coworkers have assured me that I need not worry about any of it. I’ve covered for them in the past and they are more than happy to cover for me now. My boss is amazing and was very understanding when I text him late on Saturday night that I would be out until at least Thursday.
Day 10 – I am thankful for a warm, soft bed where I have spent my last 5 days, working a little online, but mostly relaxing and watching TV. I leave to go to the bathroom or get something to drink or eat, but mostly I’ve been in this big ole bed all cozied up where I plan to stay for at least another day or two as I continue to recover.
Join me on my journey to write 30 days of thankfulness in the month of November for NaBloPoMo and follow my hashtag – #CrazyThankful – to find out what I’m thankful for this month and all year long!
I used to be all about participating in blogging events like NaBloPoMo. I also participated (and completed) in NaNoWriMo twice! Then I began starting them but falling off towards the end, then mid-way, and now I just don’t participate in them anymore. They are always a lot of fun to think about participating in, but then something falls through. November is also SUCH a busy month!

O no! Nothing worse than being ill!!! I just got over being sick. Hope you’re feeling better!
It seems like everyone has been getting sick lately, myself included. And, you are the second person I have heard that has been diagnosed with pneumonia. I had walking pneumonia a long time ago, and I remember the coughing felt horrible. I hope you feel better soon!
