Day 17 – Thankful for Boy Scouts
Monday nights have become my boy’s favorite night of the week. We are so thankful for Boy Scouts and what it is teaching our boy!
If you follow along on Facebook, you may have seen a few months ago I was in a dilemma. We were trying to decide if Benjamin should join Boy Scouts. We were so busy with soccer and he was struggling in getting adjusted to 2nd grade and I just didn’t know if I should add something to his plate. He was begging to go to the information meeting and I figured I could at least handle that. Last year, we went to the info meeting and it was chaos and Benjamin left saying that he didn’t want to join so that was that. This year, the meeting was better organized and the kids were having so much fun while the parents were filling out forms. Benjamin was right in the mix and everyone seemed to know him right away. I knew after that meeting that Boy Scouts was where Benjamin needed to be.
Now that we’ve participated in a few projects and he’s gone to several meetings, I just know that we made the right decision. He loves everything about Boy Scouts from the uniform to the badges to the meetings. He doesn’t want us going into the meetings unless it is a once a month Pack meeting. He likes to attend the Den meetings alone. I’ve talked to his leader and she’s okay with that because he’s a good kid!
Just this past month, Benjamin earned his first badge, the Bobcat Badge, and he got to pin me for it. He was so proud to stand up in front of his friends and pin his mommy. I am so proud of my big boy! And, doesn’t he look so handsome in that uniform?!
The Saturday before last was the most fun day of Boy Scouts yet. The boys all got together with a partner in the weeks prior and built cardboard cars. They were made from cardboard, tape, and the axles you see…and that’s it! They worked so hard on their cars and on Saturday, they got to race in a cardboard car derby. Benjamin and his partner came in 2nd only to his partner’s older brother! They were so excited! Of course, I was sick at home so I missed it all, but Howard took pictures and this video for me so I could feel like I was there.
So, all in all, we are very happy and thankful that we joined the Boy Scouts and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of our Scouting lives!
Join me on my journey to write 30 days of thankfulness in the month of November for NaBloPoMo and follow my hashtag – #CrazyThankful – to find out what I’m thankful for this month and all year long!
How absolutely adorable! My husband did boyscouts and has always talked about his wonderful childhood memories from doing so. Now that we have our little boy I’m sure we will be getting to experience the same!!

Very cool that Boy Scouts is still going strong. I don’t think I’ve heard about any troops in my circle of friends, but I know that it does instill good values in kids.

Ohh look how handsome he is! Our son is in 2nd grade as well and we can’t decide if we want to take the plunge of adding another thing to the list. I think Boy Scouts teaches so many great lessons though so it’s a tough choice!

Boy scouts do a lot for the community but where I am from originally there are not many communities like that which there should be.

My son loved boy scouts as well. Although we only stuck with it for a few years. Baseball took over his life. I do know many young men that have earned their Eagle Scout – and that is quite an accomplishment! Your son looks so handsome in his uniform!
