The Workaholic’s Guide to Intimacy

Oh my goodness, y’all, I have become a serious workaholic lately. I have been working a full time day job, running this blog mostly full time, and working as a Campaign Leader for Collective Bias full time. I have been working day and night and I don’t even spend time with my son on the weekends, much less my husband in the evenings. If I’m at work, I’m reading and checking email and communicating with workers and supervisors. If I’m at home, the laptop is glued to my hands and I’m emailing, reading, writing, and communicating with bloggers. If I’m at dinner, I’m thinking about my next blog post or looking at something on my phone. Even my smoke breaks (hush, yes, I smoke) are crammed with work or thinking about work. How did I become such a workaholic…and actually love every minute of it?
So, okay, maybe I do get to play with my son a little on the weekends and we have been inviting a friend of his over on Saturdays for some play time, but even then, I might sneak off into the bedroom to get a little work done. My house is a mess and my life is non-existent. I need to schedule in some play time – and I’m not just talking about play with my son.
Whoops! I guess this is the part where I should tell you that stuff’s about to get real and there will be intimate time talk in this blog post. If you don’t want to know about my intimate moments…well, this is the time when you might want to go ahead and click one of those posts to the right and read another post. Don’t leave! Just pick another post to read!
Now, I should tell you that from early on in our relationship, Howard and I had a pretty great intimate relationship. I know, we should have waited, but it’s the past now and it is what it is. We shared some really great intimate time back in the day (you know, before having a kid and bills and all that stuff). We were adventurous and a little wild (with each other) and we had fun. Howard comments often that he misses that wild girl that he married, that he fell in love with, that he craved on a daily (hourly) basis. But, life got in the way and laundry has to be done eventually, the baby has to be fed, and I’m freaking exhausted all.the.time!
A couple of months ago, we celebrated our 7th anniversary and it was pretty lackluster. We took our son on the date with us and fell asleep with him between us in the bed. We didn’t get in our usual intimate time for the celebration until a few days after the actual anniversary and Howard certainly never got his 40th birthday present *ahem* or his anniversary present *ahem*. You know the one…
You see, the deal is that I’ve become such a workaholic that my brain just won’t turn off enough to get intimate with my husband anymore. I might think about intimate time during the day and things may get a little warm, but by the time we get home, do homework, fix dinner, and get the boy to sleep (in our bed), frankly neither one of us is excited to carry our 56 lb kid to his own room and go through the “trouble” of getting “ready”. We end up watching TV while I work or check Facebook and then we roll over and go to sleep, sometimes without even a kiss goodnight.
Things have to change…NOW!
Since I have a dryness problem (due to my brain never shutting off, or my age, or something along those lines), I decided to seek out a solution that wouldn’t create a giant mess that I would then have to clean up after sexy time was over. If I’m going to have intimacy with my man, I do not want to have to clean something afterwards. I want to cuddle and fall asleep in his arms or relax, not worry about a mess. Just thinking about that makes me want to put a stop to the intimacy altogether.
While I was at Walmart recently, I decided to check out the intimate products to see what was new and I came across these K-Y® Liquibeads and I decided to go for it and see what they are like.
The Liquibeads come with a small applicator (smaller than a tampon) and say that they are less mess than a typical lubricant. I like the idea of a natural wetness in my regions without the messy goo that you get with other products. I should mention that if you are pregnant or nursing, you should check with your doctor before using KY Liquibeads.
So, this weekend, when my boy is likely to be spending the night at Granny and Papa’s house, Howard and I are taking the K-Y® Liquibeads Challenge and we’re going to channel our inner freakiness (pun intended) and see what these Liquibeads are all about! I’ve even scheduled it in on my calendar so I won’t have my mind on work and blogging!
Brown chicken, Brown cow!!
Don’t worry, I’ll be back in a week or so to let you know how it went…so come back and find out if Howard and I found our intimacy again. In the meantime, clip this $1 off coupon and take the challenge with me!
Girl I am right there with you! I have been married 21+ years and we are lucky if we get one time in every three months or so. Life seriously gets in the way!

Girl, I know all about the dryness down there. I’m juicy all day long and as soon as we go to be intimate, it’s like sandpaper down there! It’s awful! I Hate that Kyle thinks it’s because I’m not attracted to him. more often than not, it’s just age or hormones or stress! I don’t even know, it’s just not like it was when I was 25, you know? #client

We are lucky enough that intimacy isn’t too much of an issue anymore. It was when we first got married, though. Seemed our “moods” were never in sync. Now, we find spontaneity pretty easily. I do like the liquibeads though. That is something I will have to try out.

My husband and I have been better lately since I stopped nursing my youngest. But it just seems like there is so much going on, when I’m ready, he’s sick, when he’s ready, I’m sick or a kid has a nightmare and things are a bit rushed if you know what I mean. I wonder when that will change…I can see maybe needing this in the future when hormones change once again.

Yes, things do change after you have kids but intimacy is so important to a marriage. I hope all goes well and you get to get your freaky time in.
