Inspired by Scents to Make This House a Home
Back in December I finished cleaning and organizing my house and this past weekend, as part of a sponsored post for #CollectiveBias, I was inspired by scents to start making this house a home. As you know, all photos and stories are completely my own. #MeltsBestFeelings
At the end of December I mentioned that my messy house was finally clean and organized, but I needed to put up some decorations. Well, I guess the holidays just wiped me out because I’ve been uninspired to do anything further in the house. Don’t get me wrong, I have kept it clean and vacuumed at least once a week. My boy has discovered a love of mopping so that motivates me to vacuum a little more often because I do not want him mopping up dog hair tumbleweeds. He and I have a little routine on nights when Howard works late where we do homework and then I vacuum so he can mop, then I do laundry while he mops. It works for us, but this house is still not a home until decorations start going up.
Have you ever felt inspired by scents? I always have to be somewhat careful with scents around my house because we are all allergic to different scents. But, I headed to HEB this past weekend and just had to check out these Glade® Wax Melts and the new Limited Edition Spring Collection fragrances called Live Loud and Lift Off. They just sound inspiring, don’t they? The bright colors make me want to put a little color and pizazz in my house and I just can’t wait for Spring to come so the weather will get just a tad warmer and it will be bright outside all the time. Springtime, to me, means flying a kite and opening the windows, watching the flowers bloom and hearing the birds sing. It has to be my favorite time of year.
The Glade® Wax Warmer that I picked up is my favorite color and is such a beautiful design that I couldn’t wait to get it home to warm it up. It was easy to install, just plug it in and flip the switch. The light on the back tells you that it’s warming and you just have to pick your favorite scent to put in the dish. I decided to start with Lift Off (White Tea and Magnolia) because I love the smell of White Tea and it was blue, of course, so it matched the warmer.
Within minutes, our whole house was filled with the light scent of White Tea and it smelled like fresh laundry. You know that scent when you’ve used a great detergent and a fluffy fabric softener and then you pull out a clean towel while it’s still warm and hold it to your face and just breathe in…yes, that’s the scent that was filling my house. There is just nothing better (except maybe my husband’s cooking, but you know what I mean). I couldn’t believe how quickly and subtley the scent filled the house. It was a beautiful thing.
Benjamin and I got to work on vacuuming and mopping and I felt inspired to start dusting. When I started to dust this shelf, I felt inspired by scents throughout the house to finally decorate and put out some of the photos that I have of Benjamin and my niece, Preslee. I dusted off the candelabra that Howard and I got as a wedding gift and then pulled out some frames I bought 4 years ago that I had never filled and started to work on this shelf. Just having family photos up in a room really can make a difference in a home.
After he finished mopping, Benjamin must have felt inspired by scents as well because he asked me for a clean bucket of water so he could wash the walls and the coffee table. He and I must have cleaned for two hours straight on Saturday and our house smelled and looked wonderful!
I love burning candles & warmers. I used to burn frankincense but it sort of freaked out my husband…lol
