Clean House Advent Calendar -Day 2 (Kitchen Cleaning Part 2)
Let me just tell you all how smart I really am this week. I jumped into this Clean House Advent Calendar without thinking twice. That’s sounds like a good idea, right? Well, it would be except now I’m out of town for work for the next three days and I’m not even home to complete my 15 minutes (minimum) of cleaning each day. I’ll catch up (I promise myself) but this first few days is going to be rocky.
Now, having said that, I knew I was going to be out of town and I got just a tad ahead of myself so I would be able to post while I’m away. See…smart, eh?!
If you haven’t already seen it, I started on Day 1 in the kitchen, but I only completed one small portion. For Day 2, I decided to tackle the stove.
Do you remember what it looked like before?
Looks bad, right? It is actually usually worse after Howard cooks a really good meal. I figure the better the meal, the bigger the mess so I should get used to it and enjoy it.
When I met Howard and learned he was a chef, I told him that if he would cook, I would always clean up after. Well, that was before we had a child… This is getting deep. I wonder if I’m creating some type of processing situation through writing all of this. Don’t you just love it when I throw up my life in words on this blog? Hey, maybe you do because you keep coming back!
Back to cleaning…
Apparently, that brown stuff on the left side of the stove came from a grilling pan that Howard used last time he cooked. I had to scrub and scrub and still couldn’t get it all clean. I’m going to need steel wool or something to get it off.
Once I got started on it, I was really enjoying myself. I felt like I was accomplishing something. I cleaned the hood above the stove and all the handles and knobs. I got out an old toothbrush and scrubbed in the crevices and tried again to get that brown stuff off. I cleaned the backsplash and the bottom of the cabinets above the stove. I think I got it all clean!
Let me know what you think!
Now that you’ve seen Day 2, I’ll show you what my next project will be, but I totally need some advice on this!
So, look at that top picture. See all the shelves? I am planning to pull everything off the shelves because it doesn’t belong there. The signs will go somewhere on the walls and the rest will find a real home (possibly the trashcan). Here’s where I need the advice. What do I do with the shelves? Do I use them for something functional or decor? What do I put there? That’s a whole other advent calendar with the decor of our home…
Awww…the shelves. Hmmm – you know, my first thought is “decorative”. But, my 2nd thought is “dust collectors”.
However, I find that when I have functional stuff on display, it tends to overwhelm me. I have a small hutch in my living room that has only decorations on it. I know they never have to be touched (unless they need to be moved for dusting purposes. I dust my whole house monthly but this hutch gets dusted….yearly?)
It sounds like you are overwhelmed (I realize that I still have much to read), so I would say decorative. But, leave them empty until you find just what you want there. No sense wasting money on something you like when you see it in the store. But, then you get it home and hate it after staring at it for 6 months.
You know what, the shelves never were revisited and still look about the same. I need to make that my next project. It’s hard for me to spend money on decorating things when there are so many other things to spend my money on…for my boy, my husband, and groceries…
Oh I get that for sure. Home decor can be extremely expensive.
Great job! I need desperate help in cleaning my house!
