Ad: Luau Kabobs and Family Movie Night
Since Howard started work, and Kindergarten is taking up all of our time, the family has needed some reconnect time so I decided it was time, and as part of a sponsored post for #CollectiveBias, for another Family Movie Night.
Lately life has been pretty hectic around here. We have homework from Kindergarten, Howard’s new job, frequent trips to the laundromat…and then just plain regular life. As you probably already know, we only have one vehicle so I’m driving all over the place getting Benjamin to school, Howard to work, me to work, and then making the rounds all over again. Howard and I started this new eating plan so we’re trying to meal plan on the go and that has been quite a bit more challenging.
When we set out this morning to do a little shopping, we once again had no idea what we were going to buy, but we knew we needed a new movie and figured the inspiration would come while we were there. We saw the Tyson Popcorn Chicken display and VOILA! We decided to make Luau Kabobs.
There’s so many great products that come from Tyson and they always have something fun going on. You should really follow along with Tyson on Facebook and @TysonTweets on Twitter.
Picking the movie was a different story. Howard and I have quite a few movies that we want to see, but with a 5 year old, we mostly have to watch cartoon movies. We searched through the New Releases and didn’t find anything that was family friendly so we went to the kid and family movies. Howard and I saw two combo packs for The Fast and The Furious (the first four) and we are anxiously awaiting the Fast and the Furious 6 movie to come out on DVD, but those would have to wait for a date night in so we held off for now. We decided on Sandlot (for Sunday afternoon) and Epic for Saturday night.
Now, I know that Benjamin has seen pineapple before, but he was amazed by the look of an uncut pineapple. Howard put together a prep plate for our fun dinner before the movie. Look at those vibrant red peppers…yummy!
We put the chicken, meatballs, onions, and pineapple chunks on skewers and marinated in the teriyaki sauce for 20 minutes then put it in the oven on 400 for 10 minutes. Then it was time for dinner…doesn’t that just look scrumptious?!
Benjamin loved the popcorn chicken and the meatballs and I ate everything except the onions. Howard enjoyed it all and since we were at the table all together, we were able to talk about our family movie night and how much fun we would have watching Epic. Dinner together, at the table, is new for us and we are really enjoying that extra time together. On week nights, Benjamin and I do homework while Howard cooks and then we eat together. Tonight we were all involved in making dinner and my two chefs are so much fun to watch.
Family Movie Night was such a success with our new popcorn buckets and movie. Dinner was amazing and the time to reconnect and spend time together was priceless.
ooh – what a fun idea! Thanks so much for linking this up to the Friday Frenzy – hope to see you again tomorrow!
