Bottle Cap Butterfly – Giving Crafts to Kids in Need (Crazy Crafts for Kids)
My boy absolutely loves arts and crafts so this week, as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®, he and I made a Bottle Cap Butterfly and gave crafting supplies to his school for kids who need them.
My boy started Kindergarten this year and this was the first time we were able to “really” shop for school supplies. You would not believe how excited he was to see that scissors and glue sticks were on his list. He loves paper cutting crafts so he kept asking me when he would get to do them again. I think it was day 2 or 3 of Kindergarten he came home jumping to tell me that they had cut paper in his class! He talked about a super hero cutting craft and how much fun he had. I am always so proud of my boy when he gets excited about crafts and school.
After he told me about cutting the super hero cape, he started telling me about how he has the blue scissors with the cover on them and some kids have covers and some don’t. He also mentioned that some kids didn’t bring scissors because they didn’t have any. It was then that I had a huge idea that I knew my boy would love.
We decided to donate arts and crafts supplies to his school (especially Fiskars scissors) for those kids in need as part of a SIMPLE Service Project for Champions for Kids! We gathered up some supplies, but we couldn’t buy this many arts and crafts supplies without making a big project of our own. Did you know that Fiskars makes a ton of crafting supplies? You can find out more about Fiskars art supplies and craft ideas on their website or follow along with Fiskars on Facebook and Fiskars on Twitter! I found this really fun bottle cap butterfly craft so the boy and I tried our hand at it.
Bottle Cap Butterfly
We started with some white canvases and used the Fiskars tracers to help up make a circle and some ovals for the body of the butterfly. I used a pencil on the canvas so the lines would be covered with paint.
We are planning to display our butterflies in the dining room where we have a red table and primary colored chairs. We chose primary color paints for our art this time.
The boy kept asking when he could use his Fiskars scissors so he kept them close by. He just absolutely loves cutting paper. I also picked up some Fiskars Edgers scissors so he could cut designs and he was super excited about them!
We used foam brushes to get the paint on our canvases and then the boy got to cut some cardstock for Daddy and me. He has a blast and couldn’t wait until the next when the paint dried for the next step – GLUE!
After the butterfly paintings dried, we were ready to glue on some bottle caps to add some texture to our creations.
We used the Fiskars Ultra ShapeXpress™ Shape Cutter and the Circles, Ovals and Rectangles Shape Templates to make small circles to fit inside the bottle caps. This was a tool that my boy couldn’t use because of the sharp cutter so I cut out some circles for the caps while he used his Pointed-tip Kids Scissors to cut out other shapes to fit inside the caps.
The tutorial we found on the Fiskars website recommended E6000 glue so I had picked up a spray bottle and we glued the pieces inside the caps (along with some fun beads as well) and then glued the bottle caps onto the butterfly. We had the best time creating our new dining room wall art and he couldn’t wait to tell his teacher all about the donation!
You all know how much I love, Love, LOVE working on the SIMPLE Service Projects from Champions for Kids and this one was the most fun of all. I loved finding the Fiskars Edgers for my boy’s class and I can’t wait to see what his teacher lets them create.

I think it’s so great you posted this because one of my kiddos loves to save bottle caps and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to use them. Thanks.
What a cute and creative way to use bottle caps! My grandson would enjoy it!
What a cute craft for younger children… And how kind of you to donate much needed art supplies to your child’s school. I’ll bet those kids will put it all to good use!
