Good Mom Bad Mom or Fun Mom {carnival rides on a school night}
Starting Kindergarten has been unreasonably harsh on my Mommy ego and since I figure I do it all to myself, I’m going to put it all out there and let you all tell me… Am I Good Mom Bad Mom or Fun Mom? Do they have to be mutually exclusive?
Carnival rides on a school night:
Good Mom Bad Mom or Fun Mom
On Tuesday (day 2 of Kindergarten), Hubby and I decided that we finally were willing to take the boy to the carnival. He forgot it was there and we strategically avoided it for almost a week so he hadn’t been asking, but we knew he would enjoy it. So, when we picked him up from his after-school program, we told him that we were going to ride some rides. He was jumping up and down and loving on us in excitement! He had been attacked by mud at the YMCA so we took him home for a shower and some fresh clothes and then headed to the carnival.
Even after that initial delay, we still got to the carnival at around 5:45 and they didn’t open until 6. We walked over to JCPenney to see if we could find a belt for our big boy who dresses so handsome every day, but they didn’t have anything. So, we just headed back to wander around the carnival until we could start riding rides. Before we knew it, we were on the Ferris Wheel, swinging Puppy Love, tractors with real honking horns, and that big huge slide that Mommy had to ride with the boy.
Twenty tickets were gone in a flash and it was time to head home, but first we had to pick up dinner. The boy didn’t like the idea of Bar-B-Q with us so we picked him up a Happy Meal first.
I think he ate some fries and I know he drank his apple juice, but that is about it before he crashed out. Poor baby was so tired he fell asleep while Daddy was pumping gas. My boy went to bed (for the night, by the way) without dinner.
Am I a Good Mom Bad Mom or Fun Mom for taking him to a carnival on a school night?
A good and fun mom! You did something special with your little guy. It’s not an every night thing, it was a special occasion!

Thanks, Shell. I think Kindergarten has been a bigger adjustment on my husband and me than it has on him. We like to go and do and have fun!
You are a FUN and GOOD mom of course. I’d do the same! Our state fair is coming up and we’re going on a school night. Less crowds!

When my dad was growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, his school had State Fair Day when school was closed, but can you imagine the lines all day on that particular day?!
a GREAT mom! No doubt about it.

Thank you, Tracie. You know we try to balance fun and responsibility, but fun always wins.
