Can I Start Calling You Mama?
My boy…my sweet endearing boy…
Ever since my boy could talk he has called me Mommy. I guess maybe when he first-first started making sounds, he probably said ma-ma-ma-ma. I don’t remember (bad mom, I know) and his very first word was da-da-da-da so I’ve fallen quite in love with being just Mommy.
Now, if you follow me on Facebook, you might have seen me complain a time or two about the number of times I hear “Moooooommy” in a day, but truth be told, I just wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, yesterday morning when he said this, my heart just sank just a little. We were driving to school (yes, my sweet boy is in Kindergarten now, yikes!) and he said it:
“Can I start calling you Mama?”
I wanted to say no, but I also want him to keep feeling like a big boy and grow up not to be a “momma’s boy” so I just giggled nervously and said “sure!”.
Then, he said, “Ok, Mommy, is that what I called you when I was a baby?” and then a few minutes later, “Mommy, watch this” and “Mommy, I’m excited to go to Kindergarten today” and “Mommy, Mommy, Mommy“.
My big boy, baby boy, loving boy, was back to normal.
