When Mommy needs a Break {5 Ideas for a 5 Minute Break}
I know that you are all thinking that since I have been lying around sick for the past two weeks, then I don’t really need to be yelling “Mommy Needs A Break” just yet. Maybe you all are thinking that because I have been sick for two weeks that I deserve to be yelling it. Regardless…this is not about me, it’s about you!
5 Ideas for a 5 Minute Break
Whether you are a mommy or a grandma or a caring friend of a mommy who needs a break, you all deserve a break from time to time. I’m here to give you a few ideas for a 5 minute break and I would love to hear your ideas as well!
1. Take a long(er) shower.
Sometimes, Mommy needs to really wash her hair a few extra times. The bottle doesn’t just say “rinse and repeat” for no reason. Ensure that the kids are locked up occupied or Daddy is getting them dressed for the day (that’s what happens in my house) and take a few extra minutes. If you’ve already showered for the day, you can take another shower…just blame it on the hot weather or you spilled something on you or you forgot to shave your legs…
2. Conveniently leave your purse in the car.
This would be my “smoke a cigarette” excuse. When I need a break, I tell Hubby that I need a cigarette. He usually listens because he has been out for at least 4 cigarettes by the time I reach this point. If you don’t have this nasty addiction like me, then all you need to do is simply leave your purse or glasses or cell phone (gasp!) in the car. This way you will have an excuse to go back out to the car…and take some extra time for a breath of fresh air.
3. Schedule a business call
You don’t really have to schedule a business call, but you could call a blogger friend and talk for 5 minutes and then you BOTH get a break and you can “write it off” as a business call. Social Media contacts totally count!
4. Run an errand {go to the store}
Suddenly remember that your best friend is having her 3rd anniversary of whatever…or your sister is celebrating her child’s latest report card…and you HAVE to get something for them at the store. You just want to pick up one thing, really fast, and you need to just do this on your own. If the kids are already bathed and in pajamas, this is a great time because you can’t justify dressing and getting them out of the house. You don’t have to actually go anywhere – except you should probably leave your driveway – but you might want to keep a stash of greeting cards or small gifts in your trunk so you come home with something from the store.
5. Enjoy a {guilt-free} sweet treat
For the past two weeks, I have been laid up during the day resting and trying to feel better. DOLE had sent me some of their fruit parfaits before I left BlissDom, but I hadn’t tried them yet. I didn’t feel hungry very often, but when I did, I wanted something sweet. Since I couldn’t eat according to my diet, and couldn’t take my diet medicine (because of the antibiotics), I didn’t want to get too out of control. I usually buy DOLE treats for my boy and end up eating one or two, but these parfaits were all for me and they were a perfect treat for me throughout the day. I tried all three flavors and I think the pineapple was my favorite, but I definitely liked them all.
If you need a 5 minute break, offer to clean the fridge out or rearrange the pantry, then grab a parfait and enjoy your break. If you absolutely have to, offer your kids a treat as well, and you can all sit and enjoy the creamy goodness together. These treats are all natural and kid-friendly!
