Mommy is Sick {and feeling guilty as usual}
Mommy is Sick
This morning, I was slowly getting out of the shower when my boy asked me to come see something on TV. I could barely move and certainly couldn’t move fast enough to get to the TV before the cartoon changed to a new scene. I heard him get upset and I said I was sorry (again) and then I heard Hubby and our boy start talking.
Daddy said something that I couldn’t quite understand and I heard our boy say, “but I like playing with Mommy”. I heard Daddy say that Mommy wasn’t feeling well and that her body was hurting and our boy replied, “but when my legs hurt, she rubs them for me”. I heard Daddy say that they needed to give Mommy a little more time to feel better and then I started bawling in the bathroom.
I have been sick for a week now.
Last Wednesday, I stopped by my Dad’s house to drop off some clothes for my boy because he was going to spend a few days with Granny and Papa. My dad was sick with allergies and cold symptoms and it made me take pause because I have the same allergy issues and I haven’t had my regular “head cold” that I get about every three months. We have horrible pollen around right now and there is a layer of green on my Jeep every morning. I haven’t been able to let our boy jump on his trampoline because the green pollen is all over that as well. It seems this year is worse than it’s been in a long time.
On Thursday, I jumped out of bed to start packing for Blissdom and I could feel the scratchiness begin. I tried to ignore it and chalk it up to excitement and my inability to fall asleep before 2am and then back up by 6am. I packed and loaded up the Jeep and headed toward Dallas. With every hour and every stop, I could feel the stuffiness, scratchiness, ickiness, building in my sinuses. I was getting sick.
How could I be sick at Blissdom?
I made it through the first day of Blissdom and headed to my grandmother’s house for the night. By the time I went to bed, I was feeling the head cold. I laid there to think what I could do to make it go away the fastest and I remembered that I had a package from Vick’s in my Jeep that I was sent in order to facilitate a blog post about DayQuil and NyQuil.
As I mentioned, I get this head cold about every three months and when it really hits, I tell Hubby that I need a NyQuil night to recover. Usually it only takes me one night of a full dose and I’m better the next day, but this one seems a little more stubborn.
Vick’s DayQuil and NyQuil are my saving graces!
DayQuil was my friend during Blissdom and I was sure to have some available every chance I could take it. When I came home, I told Hubby that I needed a NyQuil night and he was okay with that. Sunday, when I woke up, nothing had changed. I slept good and felt good through the night, but I was reaching for the DayQuil as soon as my boy woke up. I made it through the day, but when Hubby came home at 3pm, I was reaching for the NyQuil again.

Mommy is sick and she’s feeling guilty about it.
When Mommy is sick, things are different around the house. I have an amazing husband who takes care of a lot around our house. Most of the time, he is the one to clean, cook, organize, and keep this house going. Mommy’s big job at home is caring for our boy. I am mostly responsible for bathing and keeping our boy busy. He and I play a lot and I’m the one who can pat him to sleep with the most ease. When I’m sick, and especially this time, I can barely keep my eyes open past 8 or 9pm, whether our boy is asleep or not. Hubby has been doing it all while I lay around and moan or ask him for one “favor” after another.
I hope you feel better soon.
Around our home when I become sick the house goes to ruin. Seriously. So once I’m up and about again I have tons of housework, cleaning, laundry, dishes etc all ready and waiting for me. You are lucky to have someone who steps up to the parent plate and helps out.
