That Crazy Man I Love {and how often}
Hubby and I have been saying to each other more and more that it is time for another date night and some alone time. We keep saying it, but we haven’t done anything about it yet. We are missing each other.
When our boy was young, he used to go to bed between 7 and 8pm, sleep in his own bed, in his own room, and we would take that time to eat dinner together and either watch TV or sit and talk. Sometimes we would even talk until 2am and not even realize it.
We have been letting ourselves (and our boy) down by allowing him to stay up later, sleep in our bed, and not taking time to nurture our relationship. We aren’t in a bad place (yet) but I can see the difference growing.
For the past year, Hubby and I have attempted to nurture our alone time during our lunch hour. I pick him up, we go home and eat, and either watch TV together or sit and talk. Most of the time, I am feeling down by lunch (it’s a blood sugar thing), but by the time we head back, I’m feeling playful and happy again.
Even this time together has changed because Hubby’s new boss is giving them all a hard time about time away from the market during their shift so he hasn’t felt like he could leave for a full hour in a couple of weeks now. In fact, since the new boss showed up, he has taken one lunch hour…and he was written up for other things that happened while he was gone. Gah!!
We are blessed that we have family in town with us so I know that I can call on them to babysit, but I don’t do it as often as I would like. Our boy loves his Aunt B and K and I know they enjoy spending time with him. Their family is growing and I know things will change for them, but I still hesitate sometimes to call them.
Granny and Papa love to have our boy over from time to time and our boy loves going there. But I know they both have physically strenuous and stressful jobs so they are tired in the evenings.
I wonder sometimes what other couples do.
How often is too often to call on family to babysit?
Why I Love My Husband: Part Two
That Crazy Man I Love {and how often}
I’m building my never-ending list…
6. My husband was a chef for 20 years and I love (most) of his cooking! This means that he is in charge of all of our meals, whether he cooks or we go out to eat (because I’m indecisive ;)).
7. My husband makes a great alarm clock with a never-ending snooze. He sleeps closest to the alarm so he hears it, gets up to take the dogs out, showers…all while continuously reminding my boy and me that we HAVE to get up.
8. He makes me laugh. Seriously, that man cannot have a serious conversation! As frustrating as that can be, he can also cheer me up no matter what mood I am in.
9. He worries about me. Sometimes I feel like I’m getting in trouble when he wakes up and I’m still reading blogs or looking at Facebook at 2am. He practically yells at me to go to sleep…in a nice, loving way, of course.
10. He dances and sings. The man has no rhythm and a loud booming, yet completely out of tune, voice, but he dances every chance he gets and he sings everything he does. My son is starting to do this as well…how fun for his future wife!
I’m building this never-ending list every Thursday with the Happy Wives Club. Sometimes, it will be mushy and sometimes it will be hilarious, but it will always be true.
This reminds me. I need to write up a post for Sat. We will be celebrating our 7 year anniversary.
A totally get weak for a man who makes me laugh! Wishing you two all the best in 2013.

Happy {early} Anniversary!
I can probably count on one hand how many times I go to bed with Michael! I am usually a 2am or later sleeper and he hates it. Mommy just needs her alone time to work and/or browse whatever I want without distractions! LOL! We ask for a babysitter date night about once a quarter, do an in house date night monthly, and go out to eat as a family weekly.

Yes! As soon as they fall asleep, it’s mommy time!
Love your never ending list! And I think we should all call up to the market and give that guy who calls himself a boss a piece of our mind :). Thanks, Janet, for linking up and now I’m heading over to Lisa’s site to read her list.

Thanks, Fawn! Writing all of this out has not only made me feel better about my marriage, but it has also inspired my husband to start reading what I’m writing.
That is so awesome, Janet!

I haven’t had a date night since a year before last. How pathetic is that?

Oh my, Lena…you need to plan one!
It is good to have a husband that laughs and makes you laugh. Even if it makes it hard to have a serious conversation sometimes.
We date weekly, but then again, I’m now a SAHW and SAHM, our youngest is 20, and pretty independent, so we are in a different place than you. We didn’t date years ago.

I think he and I need to stay connected like this or we won’t know each other when our boy is 20, haha!
Love it! I am enjoying reading your posts through this series. And I had to laugh at #9. Colby often asks me as I am crawling into bed… “What time is it?” Ummmm… you don’t want to know. “STACI!” Seriously… it was 6am this morning. Not even kidding.
It’s a good thing they love us!

It might be a little better if I was being productive that late, but after 10-11pm, I’m useless. Just reading…
It’s a great idea to do the lunches together. That sucks work is being like that. They need a break away.
Babysitters…not since before our daughter so 6 years ago unless you count when I had surgery and my cousin watched the kids.
We’ve started doing the lunches, and I really like that. I don’t need a night out, but a little alone time is good.
Night time movies are good (when you can stay awake..hard here)
If you can’t have your lunches have someone watch him..it’s great you have family nearby who wants to..go for it!

Sleep, that’s what keeps us from spending more time together. We actually had a day off together a few weeks ago, but took the boy to daycare. What did we do? We took an afternoon nap!
What a great post! I love that you guys have decided to make spending time together a real priority. Let me tell you…from a woman who has been very, very happily married for over 20 years….it is extremely important! Get the babysitter if you need it. Encourage your boy to sleep in his own bed again & get him into bed at a decent time. Whatever it takes! Make your relationship number one for awhile! The payoff is fantastic!!! Oh, and I love your never ending list too. I might just have to join!

Lisa, I absolutely LOVE when you talk about your marriage and would really love to see your list. You have that kind of love relationship that most of us dream about!
I joined up!
Thanks for introducing me to the website and the idea!!!
