How to Have an Out of this World Date Night
Hubby and I spend a lot of time and energy into making sure our boy has the most fun he can possibly have every day. A common discussion during our lunch breaks together revolves around what we will do with the boy that evening. It might be something as simple as playing a board game, putting together a puzzle, or watching a new episode of his favorite TV show, but it also may include going to the theater, visiting the zoo, or buying the most recent New Release kid-friendly movie. One thing that we tend to forget sometimes is planning time for us. We try to make plans for a conversation, watching a show we both enjoy, or something more special for after the boy is asleep, but inevitably one of us will fall asleep or that will be the night that our boy won’t go to sleep on time. This month, before the Holidays really hit, we planned a date night and we made it out…of…this…world!!
Out of this World Date Night #SeeMIB3
Remember last month, when I mentioned that I picked up the Men In Black 3 pre-purchase, that it is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on November 30, but would be able to see it early by watching it online with VUDU? Well…that is exactly what we did for our date night!!
While Hubby was preparing our alien-inspired dinner (and yes, I was slightly afraid of what that might look like) I logged onto VUDU.com to get our movie ready. This is the first time we have viewed a movie on VUDU so I was slightly nervous that either (a) the movie wouldn’t be there as promised, (b) I wouldn’t be able to figure it all out, or (c) my computer wouldn’t work with the movie (it’s a dinosaur).
I logged in, clicked on My VUDU and My Movies, and there it was! Score 1!!
I clicked on the Men in Black 3 picture and was given this screen with all of the information that I might want to know about the movie. Since Hubby and I haven’t seen MIB3, we were interested in some of this, but we only had a small window of babysitter time so we will have to come back to this.
I clicked on “Watch HDX” and we were set to go! Score 2!!
The movie was on and we were ready to go!! My dinosaur computer had no problems streaming the video and we were laughing in now time! Score 3!!
After watching the screen for a short time, I realized that we could expand it and watch it full screen and then we were really set! Score again!!
And the alien dinner? Bonus Score!!
Stir-fry alien guts with meatball googly eyes!
My husband is such a goofball, but he is an amazing chef. He loves to cook and while most people think of restaurants and movie theaters for a date night, we think of Hubby cooking and a movie rental. Unfortunately, we tend to rent videos at a video kiosk and forget to take them back.
We checked out all of the newest picks and can definitely see where we will be renting movies now. We still haven’t used our free rental code from becoming a new user, so what should we watch next?!!
Men In Black 3 on Blu-Ray/DVD on 11/30
In MEN IN BLACK™3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back…in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him – secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency and the future of humankind.

I enjoyed Men in Black! What a fun date night!
I don’t have kids, but I AM Super Aunt of the family (so named by my oldest nephew). I use to watch by sister’s kids (4, then 5 kids! She now has a step-daughter as well & calls them her 6 pack, lol.) when she worked nights. Back then, hubby and I made date “lunched” on Sat so we could still spend time together since I was always gone when he got home from work during the week. Maybe you could do that if your son has activities or friends he could spend the day with if he isn’t in school yet.
One other suggestion I could make: you mentioned limited babysitter time. Do you have another friend with kids? Trading weekend babysitting for free once a month to save money but still get quality time could be helpful. I use to give babysitting GC to my sister & sister-in-law at the holidays when the kids were younger. They wanted those more than any store bought gift back then Working out a trade could be helpful to the other parent(s) just for break even if they don’t go out, too.
The food by site looks gross but i bet it was yummy. I like how he made food to go with the movie. The first men in black was the best
That looks horrible, gross and I just lost my appetite. I wish I could have a date night with anyone, I miss going out dancing, out to dinner with my friends and my husband, my sisters and my kids. My family is 4 hrs, my husband passed in 02 and my kids are grown with there own families now and to get my son out, ha, that would take an act of congress and from what I hear they can’t pass shit lately.
I sit back and watch those love stories of Christmas about how all they want is a boyfriend, a new friend or even a New Years Date, I keep asking Santa for mine and I’m still waiting, someone keeps telling me, yes Shelia there is a Santa Clause but for somehow, I don’t believe it any more. Well if I can’t have a friend, companion or lover how about a electric shaver to knock the stubs off my legs so they don’t look like porcupine needles thru my sweat pants..LOL
I’m so sorry to hear about your losses and that your grown children aren’t coming to visit you more. I wish you all the best in 2013 and hopefully you’ll have a #Lucky13 win!!
We have been trying to be more intentional with date nights. Over this past year we have started having at home dates since it is hard to find a good babysitter that wants to watch ALL our kids… (we only have 3 and they are really well behaved but still…).
I think it’s awesome that your hubby cooks. My hubby does almost all the cooking because I have a tenancy to burn things. Coincidence? Or am I just REALLY smart? hehe Glad the viewing went well. I love this movie!

I love the meal your hubby made, totally fun! I want to see that movie so bad!
I believe in date nights, they should be essentially for ALL couples.

We haven’t had a date night in ages. I actually prefer watching movies at home to going to the theater. It’s always either too cold or too hot or someone’s kicking my seat. I’d like to see MIB 3 but I’m actually hoping my son gets Arthur Christmas on DVD this year so we can watch it together.
You should really try out VUDU for rentals as well! It was very cool.
This post doesn’t really apply to me anymore unless I want to plan a date night with my cats. Joking aside, I do remember when my kids were young (they’re 14 & 17 now), before their dad/my fiancee passed away we would love when my parents took them and we would just go to an all night Walmart and walk around, have fun shopping, buy a movie and go watch it. So simple, but so much fub. Your husbands cooking reminds me of Norm, I’m a BAD cook, but he was awesome in the kitchen. I really liked this post-I can’t wait to see MIB3, and if it makes you feel any better I think I’ve only gotten my DVDs back to RedBox once or twice.
Haha, that really does look like an alien! Love it
