Start your day with a Spin Into Action for children’s oral care
Earlier this month, I told you about how I was planning to Spin into Action with my coworkers to gather up donations for children's dental care. Check out how it went and learn how you can Spin into Action as well!!
Spin Into Action with the Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project #SpinbrushCFK
Champions for Kids Spinbrush Rainbow Room Donation Breakfast Party!!
I've always heard "if you feed them, they will come" so when I wanted to encourage my coworkers to donate to the Rainbow Room for #SpinbrushCFK, I invited them to a special breakfast event. Here is a portion of the email that I sent to all of the workers and admin staff in my office (about 20 employees):
On the morning of the Champions for Kids Spinbrush Rainbow Room Donation Breakfast Party, I picked up some donuts and pigs and blankets and I just couldn't wait to see what my coworkers would bring!! Being that Tuesday was the last day of the month (and state employees are paid once a month on the first) I promised everyone they could continue to bring donations through the week and eat the yummy treats now.
The donations were great and I am proud of my coworkers for coming through for this Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project. They showed how they could Spin Into Action for children's oral care!!
You can see how I prepared for the SIMPLE Service Project in my Spin Into Action Google Album.
Rainbow Room: Helping those in need
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to CPS caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. To find out more about Rainbow Rooms in Texas, visit Greater Texas Community Partners.
As a reminder, my coworkers and I chose to Spin into Action to donate oral care items to the Rainbow Room. So often children come into foster care with only the clothes on their backs. The Rainbow Room is there with all new clothing, hygiene, supplies, and toys for the children. Additionally, our investigators and workers come across families who may just need a little extra help. The Rainbow Room can supply food products and hygiene, clothes, toys, and more to these families as well. My experience with seeing donations come into the Rainbow Room is that toys and clothes are more often donated. It is "fun" to shop for toys and clothes, but hygiene products are not always the first thing one would think about when choosing items for donation. A kickstart like this one can really be helpful to the families served by our Rainbow Room.
My hope is that people will begin to think about the impact they can make without the hit to the pocketbook if they remember to "Buy 2, Give 1". When you buy new socks, a new toothbrush, a new stick of deodorant, or a household item, go ahead and buy two of the item, and give one to your favorite donation area.

This is a great idea. I have to see if we have something similar in my area
Jo-Ann, this project can be done everywhere!! You can check out the Champions for Kids site for ideas. August is all about Bag It Forward and I did a project in July to help kickstart it! Check it out in my Bag It Forward post.
As far as the Rainbow Room, check with your local Child Protective Services office and they can tell you if there is a donation location. Ours is right in the office!!
How fun! Nothing like food to draw people!
Tooth brushing seems overly complicated nowadays.
Haha!! I know, right! I don’t remember having so many fancy options as I was growing up. It was pink…or blue…
What a GREAT idea to host a breakfast at work to get others involved! So fun!
Thank you, Brandi! I love breakfast so I figured they would respond well also!
