Howard B Wigglebottom Learns Too Much of a Good Thing is Bad
My boy has started paying more attention to commercials and asking for the toys that he sees. Hubby and I like to buy for him, but we also know that he needs to learn restraint. As always, the lesson we are teaching when a book arrives, Howard B. Wigglebottom is there!!
Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns Too Much of a Good Thing is Bad
My family loves all of the Howard B. Wigglebottom books that we have received so far. They always arrive just at the right time to help us teach our boy a lesson. The Boy loves that the main character is Howard (like Daddy) and B. (like his name) and he loves to read anyway. The HBW stories are always funny and the illustrations are adorable. There is always something funny in the book because poor Howard just has a knack for shenanigans.
The Story
HBW is having a birthday, the day when it feels like everything should be about him. If just a little ice cream for breakfast sounds good, surely the whole ice cream sundae will be even better! If one bubble gum sounds good, surely more will be even better! And if one balloon is fun, surely 83 balloons are best! Once HBW is full, can’t talk, and is floating past his school…he begins to rethink his choices through the day.
Lessons and Reflections
Especially since we are first time parents, Hubby and I sometimes need an extra prompt when teaching lessons. I tend to lean to the modeling or hinting and patient way of teaching, hoping The Boy will catch on. Hubby is a talker and will sometimes talk over our boy’s head. The lessons outlined in the back of an HBW book are very helpful. Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns Too Much of a Good Thing is Bad has prompts for learning about “Pleasure and Consequences” and “Discipline and Moderation”.
