Date Night with 21 Jump Street & High School Cafeteria Food
Last night, Hubby and I threw caution to the wind and dropped off our boy with his aunt so we could have a date night. We planned a “stay-in” date night to save money and had so much fun!!
It’s been a long time since Hubby and I had a date (and we didn’t “date” much before our boy came along) so we usually try to make the most of it. We have been taking The Boy to so many new movies at the theater that we thought we would try a rental from Blockbuster Express instead. We wanted something funny so we decided we would pick up 21 Jump Street and have an in-home date night on a budget. We set our goal for under $25 to make it fun and affordable. We figured if this one went well, we may just make this a weekly event!!
Rent a Movie!! {21 Jump Street from Blockbuster Express}
Before going to pick up the movie, I signed up for a free Blockbuster Express account online and earned a free rental for signing up!! We checked out all of the New Releases and definitely decided that 21 Jump Street was the movie we wanted to see. We wanted something funny and light hearted for this “boy free evening”.

I have never seen the TV show from the eighties (I know…why would I miss something from Johnny Depp?!!) so I asked Hubby what it was about and read the synopsis on the Blockbuster Express kiosk. He told me it was about two cops who go undercover in high school to bust criminals. This got me thinking that we should have a themed dinner with our movie so we decided to pick up “high school cafeteria” type foods. What foods do you think of when you think “high school cafeteria?
Pickup Dinner!! {High School Cafeteria foods from Walmart}
We had a blast walking through Walmart looking for stereotypical high school cafeteria foods. Hubby was in a silly mood, which made me laugh, so I’m sure people were looking at us strange. We saw one of our boy’s teachers and she definitely giggled at us. We picked up mini-square pizzas, Ball Park burger patties, buffalo style chicken chunks (we had quite a laugh at the “chunks”), soda, and ice cream. I was so busy taking pics that I really thought Hubby had picked up Ranch dressing, but it was blue cheese and it turns out I DO like blue cheese..go figure!!

Time to Relax and Share a Laugh
Hubby “cooked” our high school cafeteria foods and we settled in for the movie. I have to say that I haven’t laughed this much during an evening with him in a long time. Before our boy came along, and when he was a small baby and would sleep in his own bed and go to bed early, we used to stay up late watching movies or TV shows we enjoyed. We haven’t done that in so long and sometimes when we do have time together, I am usually blogging or we are too tired to stay awake. This evening was a nice, refreshing evening together with a great, funny movie.

I’ll skip the cafeteria food (though your choices look pretty good!) but will definitely check the movie out. I used to watch the original and would love to see the modern take. Looks like you had a super fun, and memorable date night – awesome!

I love how excited your hubby is getting a movie and date with you! I haven’t seen this movie yet and really want to. I’ve never even used a Blockbuster express. I’ll need to find one!

We LOVE Blockbuster Express! They used to have FREE codes all the time, but now they have the free code for signing up for an online account. I think they occasionally have a free code floating around, but even without the codes, the movies are only $1!!
Love it! Hubby looks like he had a great time also and it is good for us to take a step back and really enjoy each other and laugh every so often. We need to start a date night again.

We really did have a good time and it was somehow different than the times when our boy has been away on vacation with his Granny. This one was spontaneous and fun, even if we did have to pick him up after.
Yay for a fun date night!! We are still waiting to see the movie until we get a free night together. We even have the movie…oh to have kids and no free time

I think your husband enjoys being on the other end of the camera. He’s so funny!! Looks like you both had a great date night. I really need to see 21 Jumpstreet. My brother keeps telling me how funny it is.
