Take a good look at what is going out of your house. If much is going in the trash, rethink things. Buy items with minimal packaging or the type that can be recycled. Unused or no longer needed household goods, toys. clothing, books, etc. can be sold or given to charities that will make good use of them. It takes a bit more effort and time, but it is worth not wasting our resources.
I’m just “re-starting” being Green, but I guess my advice would be to make the changes as you go along as opposed to making a clean sweep in one big leap. Do what you can and don’t put it off because you can’t do it all. One change is better than no change. Thanks for the giveaway.
We make our own laundry soap to cut down on those plastic bottles, as well as saving money.

My advice is a lovely little slogan I use all the time! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!
Find out what your city’s recycling policy is. Recycling is the best way to begin.

Recycling is a very easy way to start. We recycle everything, time consuming, but worth it to me. Start small, then work your way into all recycling.Eventually, it will become “normal”.
I’m fairly new too! I know one of the first things we did was start taking our own bags to stores and use them instead of bring home all the plastic bags. We have since branched out and now use snack/sandwich bags instead of plastic baggies for lunches.
Start with small, easy changes. If it’s time to buy new tupperware, buy glass instead of plastic. Start watching clearance shelves and build a stock of cloth napkins up slowly, over time, and inexpensively. Make a small investment in several re-usable sandwich bags and a lunchbox. I started buying staple pantry items in bulk to cut down on packaging waste – so each time I shop at my local Winco (bulk items available there), I buy a bucket and lid. It’s taken me 4 months, but I now buy pasta, flour, sugar, rice, cornbread mix, and dog biscuits in bulk and keep them in 2 gallon buckets in my pantry. I also use 2 gallon buckets for my homemade laundry detergent and homemade fabric softener. I slowly stopped buying cleaning products and bought spray bottles instead, making my own cleaning solutions that are safer for the environment and my kids and pets. Changes don’t have to be made overnight to make a difference.
Start small, or you’ll drive yourself crazy. Maybe start by using reusable shopping bags. Then start doing other easy things, like recycling and reusing what you can in your house.
recycleing is a light way to start
I’m fairly new to being “green” as well, so I would love to read all of the responses you get from the more “schooled” ladies out here! But what I have learned & put to good use so far is to just take each purchase/decision at a time & be thoughtful about the products that you usually don’t think twice about purchasing, such as household cleaners & even your food. We are pretty strict about composting at our house, so that’s become a no brainer already. It will take some time, but each step is moving us all closer to a better world for our children’s children. We’re already doomed from our earlier destruction! hah.
Start cutting out plastic – there are so many little ways to eliminate plastic – use washable utensils, reusable bags etc

start changing your “un-green” habits slowly and one at a time. Recycling is an easy first step. Then switch to paper-less/plastic-free for cleaning and food storage (i.e. reusable rags instead of paper towels, cloth napkins, glass containers)

Use reusable shopping bags and sandwich/snack bags. They are fun to shop for and you can find some that match your style easily. Makes is more fun to be green IMO.
Take reusable bags to the grocery store
Happy Future are all natural & hypoallergenic
recycle, reuse and compost what you can. Donate what you don’t need anymore but is still useful to someone else. walk or ride a bike if you’re going short distances, unplug things you’re not currently using. Air dry as much laundry as you can (better for your clothes too!). Shorten your showers by even just a few minutes. There are so many ways to “go green”.
Recycling and trying to reuse things is the best way to start being green

of course unplugging anything that you don’t need at the moment, and making sure all the lights are off when your not in that room–But we use gray water for the flower beds to water–That is any water without oils or fats from the dishes– a brick in the back of the toilet–you will use a lot less water– recycle news papers, bottles, and soda cans. All scraped veggie not cooked ,egg shells, coffee grounds allgo to the compost 2x a week..
stop using plastic bags…bring your own! recycle recyle recycle!
unplug appliances not in use, if you can carpool or when doing errands try to do them all on the same day rather than a little each day if possible to save on gas & emissions, ride a bike or walk if you can too. If you live in a state with a bottle deposit, then you already are recycling cans, plastics if not, it might be a great way to start by sorting out plastics and cans and getting them ready for curbside pickup or a trip to the local recycling center. Also, same thing with newspapers & magazines, pass them on to a friend, donate them to dr. office or library or bring them to recycling center to help out our trees.

Recycle, compost and stop packaging in consumable products – use less plastic wrap and more containers.
Good luck!
I would suggest taking small steps and each week adding something new. We just recently switched from paper towels to reusable cloths and we love it!
Use natural skin care and personal care products. Buy “the dirty dozen” and potentially GMO foods as organic. Switch to natural cleaners. I could go on and on, but those are 3 of the key ones.

composting and conserving energy
Start by recycling and making small changes so you aren’t overwhelmed. I am learning about lots of great Green products on these blog hops too! Thanks!
Reusable shopping bags!!!! Use less plastic and recycle!!!!
One of the easiest ways to go green is by using reusable bags when grocery shopping. They reduce waste and come in a bunch of cute colors and themes. Oh, and make sure you leave them in your car or you will forget to use them.
Honestly I am also new to begin green and just trying to start out myself. We recycle but that has been about it so far.
I am too but I have started reusing the plastic grocery bags for dirty diapers (one goes in and I dont have to smell it)

I would suggest starting small and changing your lightbulbs and recycling
I would start by recycling or reusing whatever you can. In our house, we try to give everything a second use before we throw it out. Plastic yogurt cups are used a second time for starting seeds for our garden. Plastic bags from the grocery store are used as trash bags. (Although a better choice would be using reusable bags at the store.)

i am new to being “green” too. I suggest participating in these blog hops and learning more from each blogs reviews
Keep it simple, start slow and with something that you think you can handle (I don’t suggest composting as it’s more complicated than throwing rotten tomatoes out your back door, trust me, smile).
How about recyling. Put two plastic buckets under your sink (or use your trusty rubbermaid container, I want one SO badly) and separate plastic and paper. If you don’t have time put it all in one container and let your kids separate it. Gets them involved and conscious about it.
Best of luck.

I suggest doing small things to start out. We’re still going green, and we’ve been working on it for months. It’s much easier on everyone doing it this way. We change one or two things per month, that way it isn’t such a shock lol.

I would try to reuse any containers and find a use for any waste
one thing that takes a bit to get used to but is easy once you are, is taking cloth bags with you when you go shopping, we never use plastic bags anymore
Donate, reuse,recycle whenever you can
One way to start is to bring your own canvas bags to the grocery store instead of using plastic bags!
Start with the simple changes first. Use green cleaners, use cloth towels instead of paper, dishes instead of paper plates, etc.
I would suggest you start small. Just switch some of the things you normally do with more green options. For instance, instead of using chemicals to clean, make your own. Use one part vinegar to two parts water in a spray bottle for glass cleaner.
Also, read my guest post on Single Mom Inspiration’s blog at http://singlemominspiration.blogspot.com/2012/04/inspiration-for-day-guest-post-easy.html I put a bunch of new tips for easy going green there
