Stay tuned today at 12pm EST for an interview with Miss Piggy!!
Hi Kermit! What can you tell us about your new movie, The Muppets?
The Muppets is the story of an incredible Muppet fan named Walter. Walter visits Hollywood to meet us, but he ends up on a crazy adventure where he has to save the famed Muppet Studios.
What character do you play in the new movie?
I play me, Kermit The Frog. I’ve played other parts before, like Bob Cratchit in A Muppet Christmas Carol and Captain Smollett in Muppet Treasure Island, but I think ‘me’ is my favorite part. To be honest, there aren’t a lot of great parts for amphibians, so I was happy to land the role.
How similar are you to the Kermit we see in the movie?
My life on screen and off screen is very similar. In both lives, I’m surrounded by chaos, craziness and romantic pigs – just like any other Hollywood star.
What can fans expect from the new film?
For new fans, it’s a chance to see the Muppets back in action. And for old fans, it’s a chance to get together with old friends – and get a little crazy together.
How would you describe the humor of the movie?
The Muppets is funny and upbeat. It’s full of laughs for everyone. It’s hilarious for frogs, pigs, bears – and even people!
What was it like to work with Miss Piggy on the new movie?
I had so much fun shooting this movie – and working with Miss Piggy is always a pleasure. Well, I have to say that. Why? Because she makes me say it!
Miss Piggy is a huge diva. Did she have crazy demands on the set of The Muppets?
She did demand a few things, like lots of chocolate and a huge trailer – and that was only on the first day of filming. Her trailer took up a whole city block when we were shooting in Los Angeles. It was immense. I’ve never seen a trailer as big.
Did she demand anything else?
She also demanded extra lines in the script and things like that – but it was all for the best. Miss Piggy always gets what she wants.
What’s different about your new movie?
This was a different kind of movie for Miss Piggy and me. Normally, we are together right from the start of our films. But in The Muppets, Miss Piggy is in Paris and I have to go get her with the rest of the Muppets.
Are you a fan of France?
I love France, but I have to be very careful because my legs are an appetizer in this country. To be honest, I couldn’t get insurance for my legs, so we had to shoot those scenes on a back lot in Hollywood.
What can you tell us about the newest Muppet, Walter?
Walter is a great little guy. He reminds me of myself when I started out. We’re glad to have him on board.
What was it like to work alongside Jason Segel on the movie?
Jason is a swell guy with a fantastic sense of humor. He can find funny everywhere – even in Fozzie’s act! Not only is he a great comedian, but as a co-writer of the movie, he’s great to work with.
What was the best thing about working with Jason Segel?
If you forget your lines on the set, he can make up new ones. That’s always fun for an actor. Listen, Jason is great. He’s a really nice guy and he was a joy to work with.
What do you think of your other human co-star, Amy Adams?
Amy is incredible. She’s a terrific actress who is incredibly beautiful, talented and funny. I’d love to make every movie with her, but Miss Piggy won’t let me.
What do you like to do in your spare time, Kermit?
When I’m not working, I don’t stay in Hollywood. I go back home to the swamp and sit on a log. I watch life pass me by. That’s bliss to me.
What do you get up to on your log?
I sit there for hours and I guess I meditate. I watch the particles in the water and the stars in the sky. Well, that’s just what frogs do.
Does Miss Piggy enjoy visiting you at the swamp?
She’s not crazy about the swamp, which is strange. It’s odd because you’d think pigs and mud would get along really well.
You don’t wear many clothes in the movie. Does that ever get embarrassing?
No, that’s just what frogs do. I figure if you can get away with being naked, you should do it. It works great when you go through the security checks at the airport!
We’ve got to ask… Is it easy being green, Kermit?
It’s easier than it used to be. I went to a Being Green support group, which helped me a lot. I’m much happier now.
What’s the key to reaching your dreams and your goals?
You have to stick with your dreams, but you also have to have realistic dreams. You can’t dream too crazily or you’ll end up like Gonzo!
What are your current dreams?
Right now, I’m just hoping to make it to the end of this interview. That’s about as far into the future as I’m looking. I’d love to do more movies in the future, though. That would be another dream come true for me. I’d be over the moon to create another Muppet movie!
