CANCELLED Book Review @EAWwrites
Have you read a book lately that just draws you into a person's life and you feel like they're your friends and you just want to know what's going to happen next? You want to give them advice and be the shoulder for them to cry on and celebrate their happiness? I love books like this…and CANCELLED by Elizabeth Ann West
is just this type of story!!
Elizabeth sent me a signed ARC copy of CANCELLED for review and I really enjoyed reading the story and becoming a part of Johnathan Michaels' life for a few days.
Johnathan Michaels is a robotics engineer who has built his company from the ground up with two of his best friends. He is in love with one of his partners, Alexis, and they discover that they each have pined for the other for years when they finally get together. Johnathan has a semi-secret that he had a one-night stand with Kellie, who is now pregnant and even though he is sure he's the father, he decides not to tell Alexis until he has a paternity test…and after the excitement of their engagement settles down…and after the stress of a difficult contract at work settles down…and after…and after… He stalls too long and Alexis finds out, but will she be able to handle the stress of becoming a stepmother before she becomes a new bride?
The story also includes Anna, Johnathan's stepmother, who continues to support and care for Johnathan after his father has passed away. There are secrets in his will, and Anna has secrets. Johnathan has to help ensure that his sister and brother are still financially protected against his biological mother, Nancy Jean, who also has problems of her own.
Johnathan's second partner, Eric, is wrapped up in the story and struggles between his loyalty to his best friend and his anger at Johnathan and Alexis getting together. Eric remembers when he and Johnathan wanted to be "mad scientists" together and make robots for fun…on their own terms.
The story has twists and turns, but not the outlandish type that are unbelievable. It really does feel like one of your friends is just going through some hard times. You want to give Johnathan advice on his life and you want to be Alexis' shoulder to cry on. You might want to switch loyalties at times, but you just feel for your friends going through this difficult time in their lives.
I've been reading a lot more lately for reviews and just because I've always love reading. Now that my boy is a little older, it is easier to have little bits of time to read and not be too distracted. I kept CANCELLED in the car with me and every time I had to wait for Hubby to go in a store or when it was time to pick him up from work, the book was out and I was reading. I caught myself leaving a little earlier from work so I would have an excuse to sit in the parking lot reading while Hubby was finishing up at work. This story was really good for this type of sporadic reading because you could stop and start and not worry about forgetting what was happening (not sure if that happens to other people, but it happens to me often ).
CANCELLED is the debut novel of the RED INK COLLECTION by Elizabeth Ann West and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!!
Eliabeth is having a book signing tour!!
Here’s how it works: Every week she will draw a name from any readers who join her newsletter mailing list. The name drawn wins an autographed, annotated (personal notes from me in margin/at end of chapter) paperback copy of CANCELLED mailed straight to their door. {{I'm a little jealous, haha!!}} In addition to the 4 signed and annotated paper copies, every single blog stop has another surprise. Everyone who signs up for my newsletter receives an autographed ebook (either .mobi or .epub).
HEAD OVER TO ELIZABETH'S SITE FOR THE OTHER DAYS!!

At first I thought you were going to tell us about a book review that got cancelled! LOL
I’m glad you got to enjoy the book – it IS hard to read with little ones but I make it a priority in my life. This sounds like a great book to make time for!

Haha!! When Elizabeth emailed me about the book tour I thought she was cancelling it too!! It’s a great title to capture your attention, isn’t it?
Well, it’s a lot better than the original title: A Woman of Quality.
But yes, in searching for a title that grabs people’s attention, there are unintended side effects. Hopefully the next book in the series, SERVED, doesn’t have those issues. BTW there is a sneak preview of the first chapter of Served on my site, eawestwriting.com (the password is drama)
But please don’t read it until AFTER you read CANCELLED. I worked very hard on the twist at the end of the first book, and I’d really hate for it to be ruined.
Thank you, Elizabeth!! I am definitely going to check out that sneak preview!!
I thought the same thing! LOL
I am reading a book published by my next door neighbor. It’s called “Mint on the Pillow” and it is about her 40 year career as a nurse. I’m getting to know her better by reading about what she went through in her professional life.
