Day 23 – Thankful for Work
Monday, Schmonday…this week I’m thankful for work because that means I’m providing for my family!
As many of you know, I work two full time jobs and run this blog part time. I read and write for a living and it’s pretty fulfilling. I support my family financially. I’m basically a workaholic.
Let me tell you about my day:
I get up at a normal time (7am) and Howard gets the boy ready for school while I shower and get myself ready. I’m at work by 8am and I work in an office setting (in a cubicle). I read and consult on child abuse and child death cases all day until 5pm. I might sneak in a little bit of Facebook time on my breaks, but for the most part, I’m working all day in the Child Protection field. I don’t talk much about that side of my life here on the blog because of confidentiality, but the gist of my work is reading, writing emails, and consulting on casework.
At 5pm, I head home for a little family time and homework with the boy, but then I’m back at work on my other full time job as a Campaign Leader for Collective Bias. What this entails is hiring bloggers for campaigns and reading their content for the clients. I’m usually reading, emailing, and leaving notes all over the internet until late at night, only taking breaks for dinner, to tuck my boy in bed, and maybe a quick smooch with my husband. If for some reason I don’t have any CL work to do, I’m usually working on a post, taking photos, or writing on my blog during this time.
Around about 10pm, I stop working on CL work and focus on my blog. I work on promoting my blog in Facebook groups or writing posts like this one. I’m usually doing this type of work until around 11pm or midnight when I finally settle in and play a game on my phone until my brain can slow down and go to sleep.
See…workaholic. I’m going from 7am to midnight almost on a daily basis. The thing is…I love what I do.
I love my day job because it has been my passion for over ten years. It provides for my family as our primary source of income. It’s rewarding and satisfying. And I’m kinda good at what I do there.
I really love my CL work because I’m pretty darn good at it and it provides the “fun money” for my family to actually enjoy family time rather than worry about bills and entertainment. If I could have it my way, I would be a full time CL and it would pay for my family’s needs, but it is not designed to be a full time job. I just consider it full time because it takes that much time to do the work. I love it, though, when I get to hire amazing bloggers and then they do outstanding work and the clients are happy.
I also really love this blog. I wish I had more time to spend with it and I wish I could share more words with you all. I wish I could get more focused and provide some amazing content for you. I wish I had the resources to make it amazing. I wish I knew if anyone was reading…
In any case, today I am thankful for my jobs, thankful for work, and thankful that it is satisfying while also providing for my family.

What a wonderful way to look at your life and jobs! I actually considered becoming a MSW and specializing in Child Welfare after my daughter survived abuse and working for CPS but I knew it would be too much for me emotionally because it’s so close to home. I know you guys work so hard. I have worked with you on Cbias campaigns and I am thankful for your support! You are an awesome CL!
I am so thankful for everything! I have had so many opportunities in my life and I am grateful. I get to help people advocate for themselves, their children and I have the best daughter. Life is good!

You are so lucky you love what you do. When I was teaching dance, I never said I was going to work. Because it never seemed like work. It was just a part of me. Is your day job hard? Emotion-wise?
