So, you’ve decided to switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigs and you need a little help? I’m in the process of making the switch myself and I have a few tips for you. Let’s do this together!
Last week I was sitting outside on the porch smoking a cigarette and Benjamin came outside to sit next to me. Of course, I moved my cigarette away from him and then he asked me the question that I’ve been dreading – “Mommy, when are you going to quit smoking?”. I told him “soon” and he was totally okay with that answer (phew!), but it got me to thinking that it is time for me to make the switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigs.
I went online and did a little research, then settled on the blu PLUS+ e-Cigs and a few flavor tanks to get me started. I also bought one for Howard so he can make the switch with me because I feel like having an accountability partner in all of this will really help. Which leads me to the point of this post…
How to Switch from Traditional Cigarettes to e-Cigs
1. Make a List
For whatever reason(s) you are making the switch, you need to make a list of those reasons and post it somewhere you can see it every day. Consider laminating a small version and putting it in your last pack of traditional cigarettes or in your wallet. Post it on your bathroom mirror so you see it when you first get up in the morning or carry it around in your pocket. You may need these reminders throughout this transition.
2. Pick a Date
Find a date that makes sense to you and that you want to be your “anniversary” date. It may just be that you want to finish out the pack that you have or you may have a significant date coming up. Don’t make it too far out because it’s time to do this and don’t feel like you have to finish that pack if your date gets here and you’re in the middle of a pack (more on that in just a sec). But, pick a day/time that works for you and stick with it.
3. Get the Supplies
Make sure you have all the supplies you will need for your e-cigs and be sure to have a back-up and maybe even another back-up to that. E-cigs have several parts and you need to know about each of the parts to be able to work it correctly and make a successful switch. Plus, you need to have additional parts in case something stops working and you need to replace it fast. I’m still learning myself, but you can check out more about the technology of e-cigs here.
As I mentioned, I have chosen to go with blu PLUS+ e-Cigs. I ordered an Xpress Kit, which comes with a free flavor tank, for only $14.99 (available while supplies last). This is a $30 value – bonus! I also ordered some extra flavor tanks for only $14.99 as well so I’m well prepared. I don’t know yet how long one flavor tank will last me and I don’t want to run out before I order more.
Right now, you can get an exclusive deal online by ordering an Xpress Kit and your choice of one 3-pack of blu Tanks™ (any strength and flavor) for only $14.99. Check out the deal here!

4. Have an Accountability Partner(s)
I mentioned that Howard and I are making this switch together because we are going to be accountable to each other. You might consider telling your friends or coworkers that you are making the switch so they can help you be accountable.
5. Hide Your Traditional Cigarettes
I had a friend once tell me that he kept one cigarette in the freezer when he made the switch. He didn’t ever intend on smoking that cigarette, but he had it there in case he ever got the urge. When the urge would come, he would open the freezer, scream at the cigarette, and then go smoke his e-cigs and move on. I love this idea, but if you think you would be too tempted, hide the cigarettes wherever you think makes sense. Don’t keep them in plain sight or don’t keep them in the house at all. But, I suggest keeping just one so you don’t end up buying a whole new pack when/if you get too strong of an urge. After using the e-cigs for a while, you may smoke that one traditional cigarette and decide you are done for good and you’ll be glad you only had one and not a full pack.
6. Stick to Your Smoking Schedule
If you can’t (or don’t want to) quit smoking traditional cigarettes cold turkey, make a transition schedule. If you normally smoke 6 times per day, stick to that schedule, but replace 3 of them with an e-cig smoke break. Increase from 3 to 4, 5, and then 6 every other day or so until you have replaced your smoking times completely with e-cigs. Don’t give yourself extra smokes with the e-cig just because it is more acceptable in public. Only smoke your e-cig during times when (and in places where) you would normally smoke a traditional cigarette.
For whatever reason you are making the switch from traditional cigarettes to e-cigs, just know that you can do it successfully with just a little planning ahead. Consider checking out the blu PLUS+ e-Cigs that I mentioned above and their many flavors. You can experiment with the flavors and try out different levels of nicotine and figure out what you like best.
These are some really great tips! I’ve also always wondered about e-cigarettes, so thank you for sharing! #client
