Benjamin’s had a rough start to this school year so we’ve been changing things up around the house, including packing the perfect lunch and including lunch notes for boys in his lunch every day. I’m sharing them with you today with these free printables!
Second grade has been quite a challenge for us so far. Benjamin moved up to a new school and it’s further away from our house. Our school board decided to start school earlier in the morning so that’s a double whammy to our morning routine. Not to mention, we didn’t really have much of a morning routine during the Summer (big mistake!). We also had Howard’s surgery (bariatric sleeve) just before school started and that’s been an adjustment for us all. And then, to top it off, Howard had a defibrillator put in just two weeks after his bariatric surgery. We’ve been a little stressed around here (all of this for another post) and Benjamin’s start into second grade has been rocky, to say the least.
This year is the second year for Benjamin to be in the LAUNCH (advanced) class at school and this year seems to be quite different from last year. The expectations of the teachers this year are much higher and it seems as though there is not much “flow” from first to second grade. Benjamin has brought home some shocking grades (failing) and we’ve never seen anything quite like this before. He and I have both had a few tears and I’ve had a few talks with his teachers and the consensus among the two of them is that he is “overwhelmed” or “not using his time wisely”. When we try to talk to Benjamin about this, he gets frustrated and angry and then he cries. And then I cry. And then we are still lost as to how to solve this problem.
What we have tried is getting to bed earlier so we can get up earlier and eating a good, hearty breakfast (cereal and eggs or toast and eggs) and ensuring he has a healthy snack in his backpack, along with a perfect lunch packed so he has all the fuel he needs to get through the day. Because he’s been feeling the blues over all this school mess, I decided to make him these lunch notes for boys to cheer him up in the middle of the day.
Speaking of the perfect lunch, my boy and I have had to settle on a compromise. He likes the pre-packaged lunches that you can buy at the store so I allow him to get those IF he lets me put in a hearty snack to go with it. I usually put in some peanut butter crackers or a granola bar. But, recently I came across these MARVEL Chewy Granola Bars and I knew this would brighten his day! I can be his own personal superhero during lunch by providing a hearty snack to compliment his lunch.
MARVEL Chewy Granola Bars are great for lunch, snack, or anytime, and are 40% larger than a regular 24g chewy granola bar. Add them to a soccer snack bag or an afterschool snack, or just enjoy them yourself for a mid-morning snack. They’re not just for children, ya know! These granola bars come in six different wrappers: Captain America, Hulk, Spider Man, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Thor, and each box contains one of four collector cards: Hulk, Iron Man, Hawk Eye, and Spider Man. We are totally stocking up on the granola bars so we can collect all of the cards!
We found our MARVEL Chewy Granola Bars in the cereal aisle at Walmart.
To go along with his perfect lunch now, I’ve made these lunch notes for boys and included all the files for you to print your own. I have them separated individually on this page and included them on a pdf file here – lunch notes for boys. Let me know what you think!
Be sure to check out how to make snack time even more SUPER at the MARVEL hub.
Great idea, and even for your teen. I think teen boys get left out at times and it will remind them that no matter how old they will always fit in.
My nephew is going through a similar transition with a new school. His old one was so inadequate that he is undergoing a serious shock in the level of work expected of him. Anyways, I believe little notes and support sure do help to make a day go smoother.

What a great way to brighten up an otherwise frustrating day. I’m not too thrilled about what his teachers have told you–they said that about me way back when about math subjects–how wrong they were–I just did not understand what I was supposed to do until finally someone was able to explain in words I could understand.
Very cute, but no boys here! Need a girls version that isn’t all pink and pretty!
Those notes are so sweet!
Poor little guy. I’m glad that you’re able to take time out just for him since I’m sure he’s feeling a little lost and confused with all the changes.
