Day 16 – Thankful for Family Time on Sundays
Sunday afternoons and evenings have to be one of my favorite times of the week. We all gather at my dad’s house for some family time and we share a meal while the cousins get to play and have a blast together. Today, I’m thankful for family time on Sundays.
For about the past year, my dad has been working on this play area in his backyard for my son and my niece. He has been gathering up scraps and things found at garage sales and piecing it together. We have been waiting for the perfect time to get back out there and play and this Sunday seemed like the perfect time. Benjamin and P had a blast climbing the ladder and sliding down over and over and we just laughed and cheered them on.
Family time on Sundays is such a special time for my family. We usually head over to my dad’s house around 3pm on Sunday and he’s always cooking up a special meal for us all. We watch football (or America’s Funniest Videos) and visit about the week and what we’ve all been up to. We miss my older sister and younger brother, but they both live far away. My younger sister and her family are also in town so they are always there as well. It’s just become a tradition and my dad and stepmom have a hard time going a week without seeing the grandkids. Honestly, the cousins have a hard time going a week without seeing each other!
Benjamin and P (my niece, age 2) are good buds. They play so well together and they can get each other giggling at the drop of a hat (usually at the dinner table, no doubt). Since neither of them have a sibling and will likely not get a sibling, it is great that they are growing up together like this. Benjamin has always wanted a little brother or sister and he feels like P is just that.
So, today I am thankful for family time on Sundays with my extended family.

Aw family time is indeed the best. Sometimes our days are so rushed, it’s nice to stop and get together with our loved ones. It’s actually something I yearn for my son, both my parents work and are crazy busy, and his paternal grandmother is, to put it nicely, not the most pleasant person to be around. It makes me sad that he is missing out on these relationships, but I do get together with my sister and niece and nephew often, so at least he has them in his life.
