Memories of my Mom and Hot Tea Mornings

When I was growing up, I had a wonderful mom. She was loving and caring and always put her family first. She was in tune with my dramatic emotions and she always knew me better than I knew myself. She had patience with my depression and my illnesses and she treated each of her three girls in a way that they needed to be treated. I have some really beautiful memories of my mom, but the one thing that stands out the most is her love of hot tea in the morning.
My mom was always the house organizer. She had some OCD tendencies of cleanliness and order that she tried to pass along to us girls along the way. One of her favorite things to do was to get up early in the morning and enjoy a hot tea before starting her day. I can remember willing myself to wake up every so often so I could join her on the couch, cuddled up with my hot chocolate while she drank her hot tea. I didn’t wake up very often, but the times that I did were so special to me.
Mom would not turn on the TV or the radio, but she would just sit in silence and listen to her thoughts. She would mentally prepare for her day and enjoy her hot tea. She would put a little sugar and milk in it (which always reminded me of coffee) and would get herself energized for the day. I wonder, now, what she thought about in those early hours of the day and I wonder if she still gets to enjoy her hot tea now that she has passed away.
Recently, I visited Walmart to find a new tea so I can hopefully start my day the way that my mom always did. I’ve been feeling frazzled in the mornings and things are just not going smoothly when I’m getting the family ready for school and work. I need something to calmly start my day like my mom always did with her hot tea. I found what I was looking for with Bigelow’s American Breakfast tea.
American Breakfast comes in three flavors – black tea and honey, black tea and lemon, and black tea – but I decided that I would start with the black tea and honey. I knew I would want something sweet and since I’m staying away from sugar, I was hoping that the honey in it would do the trick. Plus, this tea has 50% more caffeine so I will get my caffeine addiction out of the way first thing in the day and I can drink water for the rest of the day (well, except for my 2-3pm pick-me-up cup of hot tea). Despite the significantly higher caffeine content, Bigelow promises that I will not experience the ‘rush and crash’ effect typical of coffee thanks to L-Theanine, the naturally occurring compound found almost exclusively in tea. I even found a $0.55 off coupon for American Breakfast Tea!
I’ve learned a lot about Bigelow recently and I must say that I’m falling in love with this company. Bigelow Tea is All American – 100% American made by an American Family; an American Company for the American consumer. Available at an American Retailer, Walmart, it is definitely something that I can feel proud to support. Bigelow Tea is made in Charleston at the Tea Plantation that is America’s largest working tea garden. Guests are invited to the Charleston Tea Plantation for weddings, tours and even a variety of music festivals. Plus, Bigelow gives back to US troops overseas with Bigelow’s Tea for Troops program. With my brother in the Air Force, I am always happy to buy something that gives back to the troops!
Now that I’m finally growing up and I want my family to be a fun family, not a stressed out mess of a family, I need to start thinking more about how to start my day calmer and more relaxed. I think I’ve found the hot tea for me to do just this with Bigelow’s American Breakfast. I can attest to the fact that the black tea and honey tastes great and gives me that natural energy that I need to start my day and pick me up when I have an afternoon slump. Now, I can’t wait to try more flavors of Bigelow Tea!
I love the story about drinking morning tea (hot chocolate) with mom. That is such a sweet memory. Thank you for sharing it with us!

What a great memory of your mom. I haven’t heard about this tea until now. I do not like coffee much, but I love a cup of hot tea. I love that this one has caffeine almost as high as coffee. It might actually wake me up, lol.
