One in Five children in the US are hungry.
Did you read that? 1 in 5 children in the US are hungry.
Are you children hungry? I know I hear “I’m hungry” often, but do your children really know what it’s like to feel true hunger?
My family has been blessed and we haven’t gone hungry. I mean, there have been times when we didn’t know where our next meal was coming from, but true hunger hasn’t hit our family and especially not our child. We have been to the food bank more than once and we have borrowed money to buy food for our son. We have eaten beans and bread for dinner and Howard and I have given up our own meals for our son. We have been through our share of bad times, but true hunger…we just don’t know that like the one in five children that are going hungry every day in the US. (I can’t drill that in enough…ONE in FIVE…)
Now that my family is getting more “comfortable” and we have money and food in the house on a regular basis, we are looking for ways to give back and I have found the initiative that means the world to me and means we can give back by feeding our own family.
Tyson and Kraft are feeding hungry kids!
Yes, you read that right. Tyson and Kraft have paired up to start feeding hungry kids in the US and you are the one who can get things done.
Tyson and KRAFT will help feed* a child in need each time a Tyson® Fully-Cooked Chicken Nuggets 5 lb. bag, a KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese Dinner 7.25 oz. 12-pack, and/or a Capri-Sun 6 oz. 40-pack are purchased at Sam’s Club during the month of August.
*Items to be donated are: 4oz. of protein, 6 fl. oz. CAPRI SUN, and/or 2.5 oz. of KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese Dinners
The Hunger Heroes initiative is all about action. It’s about turning families into superheroes, and tapping into the incredible power of giving. Like any good superhero, Hunger Heroes are bold, confident, and even playful as they save the day in style.
Are you a family of Hunger Heroes?
You all know that my son started first grade this week and back to school is always a fun time of year. Sometime about the middle of Kindergarten, my boy switched from buying his lunch to bringing his lunch. He loves those pre-made lunch kits that you buy at the grocery store, but I just don’t always believe that they have enough nutrition in them for him to make it a full day. He is in the LAUNCH program this year and he needs all the nutrition he can get so he won’t go hungry during the school day.
This week I headed out to Sam’s Club and picked up the #HungerHeroes products so I could help feed a child in need and make my boy some homemade school lunches. My boy could probably live off chicken nuggets and his newfound favorite food is mac n cheese so I just threw in some broccoli and cauliflower and added some Capri-Sun and he has his very own homemade school lunches for the week!
Because it is Sam’s Club and things come in bulk, we decided that this was just a lot of product for our little family and we could go even a step further in our giving spirit. We bagged up some of the Capri-Sun and Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and prepared to take them to our local food bank. Like I said, we have had to visit the food bank in the past and it feels really good to be able to give back to the community who helped us when we were in need.
HEADS UP! Sam’s Club will be hosting a demo THIS weekend, featuring Tyson nuggets, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and Capri-Sun so check out your local Sam’s Club before it’s too late! Also, check out this fun game and win prizes at http://hungerheroes2014.clubtyson.com/.
