Summer Housekeeping Tips {stop sorting laundry and have some fun}
I’m planning to be super busy this Summer with activities and getting this house under control, so today, as part of a sponsored post for #CollectiveBias and Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent, I’m bringing you these Summer Housekeeping Tips. Finally, you can stop sorting laundry and have some fun! You’re going to love these tips! #LaundrySimplified
Earlier this week, I talked about my Summer Bucket List and today I have a different type of list that is going to keep me busy this Summer – my housekeeping bucket list! As you know, my family moved into this rental house almost a year ago and then in December I did some major cleaning around here to get things looking presentable. Well, now that I have more time in the evenings (no homework!) and a new season is here, I’m taking on more challenges. I’m going to get this house organized. I haven’t hung decor, haven’t decorated my boy’s bedroom, haven’t unpacked boxes, and I have a really BIG project that I’m going to show you in just a little bit.
But, first, I want to give you a few tips to get you motivated as well!
1. Stop dirt in its tracks
Summer is all about being outdoors, but as you know, it also means in and out for the kids. You can stop the dirt from entering your home and save your back from sweeping and vacuuming with a new doormat on the outside (and maybe again on the inside) of every door.
2. Take advantage of boredom
I figure it probably takes less than 2 hours into the first day of Summer break before you are sure to hear “I’m bored” from your kids. Take advantage of that boredom and give the kids some tasks to help. Of course, you are going to have to get creative here. Give them a bucket of soapy water and a water hose to clean the deck or a pair of scissors to see who can trim the grass the fastest (okay, that one probably won’t work, but it’s worth a try). Offer the kids an extra allowance or assign each task a money amount. I used to earn $1 for cleaning the bathroom and $0.25 per article of clothing that I ironed during the Summer!
3. Get organized and ready for Fall
This year was my boy’s first year of school and I was not prepared for all the homework and the papers he would bring home. This Summer I’m going to get this play area organized into a homework center for him and less of a pile of random toys. Can you see the organization boxes in the background? I’m getting ready and this is my big Summer project.
4. Get a jumpstart on Fall and Winter and save money
Many of the services that you might tap into during Fall and Winter are just begging for work during this time of year so tap into those Summer discounts and order all the services you can get. Maybe you need your gutters cleaned or the heater serviced or maybe you need some landscaping done or the roof fixed. Check around for what you can find to get a jumpstart on those seasonal services.
5. Stop sorting laundry – “The Rules Have Changed”
Hear me out here because I know that you were taught from the time you were knee high to a grasshopper that you HAVE to sort the laundry. I’m going to tell you how you can simplify your laundry day, stop sorting, and still get your vibrant colors that make Summer brighter.
You all know that laundry doesn’t stop for any season. It’s the one thing that you can count on every day, every week, and it might even grow during Summer with all the swimsuits and extra towels used for water play. Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent has developed a breakthrough Anti-Color-Transfer Technology which traps loose dyes in the wash and does not let them settle onto other fabrics. This means that I can stop sorting laundry, put half of that huge basket of laundry in the machine and not worry about what’s going to come out.
Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent is packed with innovation, but it can’t perform miracles, so please follow these words of advice: wash strongly colored fabrics or new pieces of clothing, especially jeans, separately at least 5 times before doing a mixed color load with Purex No Sort detergent.
I picked up some Purex® No Sort™ for Colors laundry detergent on my last trip to Walmart and tried it out on a week’s worth of Summer laundry. I didn’t sort anything…not even the towels versus the clothes…and everything came out vibrant and smelling great. With all the time that I’m saving from sorting laundry, I’m going to fulfill my Summer housekeeping bucket list!

What will you do with your time now that you can stop sorting laundry?
Confession: I once gave my son safety scissors to cut the grass. He’s too old to fall for it now, but it kept him quiet for a while! I love your list – especially the tips about getting ready for fall. Too often we think summer is play, play, play – then we’re like running like crazy when school starts again! Looks like Purex is giving you a lot of extra time; I hope you enjoy it! #client
