That Crazy Man I Love { and blogging }

About a year and a half ago, I told my husband that I wanted to start a blog. This man I love didn’t really know why or what I was talking about, but he is blindly supportive of me in just about everything I do. Almost immediately he noticed that things were changing in our household. I would wait until our boy fell asleep and then dart to the living room to get on the computer and write.

After a while, he groaned a little about it so I would just wait until he fell asleep and then dart to the computer. I would stay up for hours either writing or reading or learning how to improve my blog, increase my readers, or making new bloggy friends on Facebook. I would sometimes roll into bed around 2 or 3 or 4am, only to be back up at 6 or 7am to get the family out to work and daycare.

During the first few months of my blog, I was writing about our family and linking up to several prompt or weekly memes. I was enjoying the writing and making some great connections. Then, the review and giveaway bug bit me and chaos took over my blog and my life.

The days of reviews and giveaways were filled with multiple packages at the door, lots of pitching to companies, companies emailing me, giveaway hop deadlines, picking winners and organizing prizes to be sent. I was constantly behind on review posts and frantically writing the giveaway posts until the last minute. We finally entered the 21st century and got wireless internet so no more dashing to the computer in another room. The laptop became a part of our evening routine.

Life has settled down, slightly, now that I am not doing the reviews and giveaways. I still have deadlines from time to time, but if I’m frantic about one it is because I have procrastinated {I always procrastinate so this happens more often than it should}. My husband is even more patient and helpful now with entertaining our boy, understanding a late night, etc. because he knows that I am getting paid for my work and more importantly, he believes in me and my work!

Sometimes I wish I had stuck with the “simple” blogging where I started, but most of the time I am happy with where I am at any particular time. I’m not a “big” blog, but I’m not a “small” blog. I might have some influence and I’m enjoying my work. I do wish I had more time to write, but one thing has remained constant – my husband’s unwavering support of me!

Why I Love My Husband {and blogging}

Now for more of my never-ending list

51. He supports me 100%. {see above, haha}

52. He likes my writing. He particularly likes these posts weekly, but he has started reading everything I write…and likes it!

53. He gives me confidence. This doesn’t come naturally to me.

54. He follows my lead. Sometimes I have these grand ideas that are probably ridiculous and sometimes practical, but not always fun for him. He goes along most of the time and finds a way to smile about it.

55. He leads sometimes, too. We work together often (or so I would like to think) but sometimes he leads and I love him for that. Truth be known, I wish he would lead more often…

Happy Wives Club

I’m building this never-ending list every Thursday (even though they moved the linky to Monday) with the Happy Wives Club. Sometimes, it will be mushy and sometimes it will be hilarious, but it will always be true.

How does your husband support your blogging?

  1. Janet, have I told you how much I enjoy coming to your site every week and reading your post? Truly. It makes me smile to hear you talk about that man of yours because he sounds like such an awesome guy! You are fortunate. I know I tell you every week but seriously, when you write posts like this, it lets us all know your hubby rocks! And I’m so happy you’re willing to share that.

    I love this post. This is really a great feeling! Recently I went to my husband for his support on starting my own business doing something I love and not only did he support me in leaving my job and helped start up the business. Last night I asked him what did he feel he brought to our marriage and he couldn’t think of anything – I’m told him he offers me the support that I think most wives would die for – and that he defines what it is to be a teammate to your spouse. **Disclosure** we are newlywed, so I just hope it stays this way 🙂

    Pleased to meet you, fellow HWC contributor!

    I am so grateful to have a fully supportive husband like yours. My hubbie was the one that really pushed me to quit my job to follow the nudges to write that just wouldn’t stop, and he hasn’t stopped being my biggest cheerleader. Hooray for husbands that stick with us through all the bloggy ups and downs!
