Crazy Crafts for Kids { Tissue Box Monster }
Hello, fellow crazy crafters! It’s been a few weeks since I shared a craft and I was reminded by a friend that I was supposed to be influencing you all to stay crafty with your kids, so here’s another one. This particular craft that I am sharing today was inspired by our mountains of Seventh Generation tissue boxes and there’s a video tutorial at the end, so I’m just going to give you the highlights of our craft and I would love to see your creations as well!
Keep in mind that your crafts don’t have to be Pin-worthy or even recognizable, but you should definitely be having fun with your kids. I’m always finding crafts to add to his Pinterest board of fun, so we’ll try to share these crafts more often…we’ll try!
Crazy Crafts for Kids: Tissue Box Monster
My family is seriously afflicted with allergies and we have two dogs (and I don’t clean house) so we’re always needing tissues. Seventh Generation sent us a mountain of tissues and then suggested that we recycle the boxes after using the tissues and make crafts with them. Since I’m just crazy enough, I thought for sure my boy would love this craft.
I had to do most of the cutting and taping of the ears, tail, eyes, mouth, and he actually played around a little in the paint while he was waiting. Can you see that masterpiece that he is making? My boy doesn’t like to get “dirty” with crafts like finger painting and he has been known to cry while playing in the mud, but he loves to cut paper and color with crayons and markers.
Of course, I’m not a crafter so I didn’t have paintbrushes so I had to paint it all with my fingers. I got a little confused during the eyes and my boy was enjoying giving me a new tissue everytime I had to change colors. He didn’t understand what I was doing even though I had shown him the video, but he did find it funny that I almost got paint on my phone a few times because I had to keep watching and pausing the video over and over.
The best part for him was when I told him to make decorations and “clothes” for the monsters. He was in paper cutting heaven! At one point, he was even handing me tiny slivers of paper to glue to the monsters. I let him have creative license over the decorations.
When both of our monsters were complete, he was definitely proud to go show “his” work off to Daddy and these little guys went a few places with us in the car for a few days. We didn’t make legs for them…well…because my boy cut into the paper towel roll and make little decorations out of it (see the top and left side of the monster on the left?).
This craft took us about an hour so it was a great time for us both. I was surprised that my boy stuck there with me during the entire craft, especially since he couldn’t do (or wouldn’t do) most of the work. I guess it could have been the fact that he was watching cartoons while we were crafting, too.

What other crafts can you make with a tissue box?
This is the perfect time for this craft. WIth everyone being sick we’ve gone thru a ton of tissues so we have lots of boxes to make some tissue box monsters. My grandson will love making these when he comes. Thanks for the fun cute idea

Erica, he could color and paint it for you to make it more personal, but it might be more fun when he is a little older as well.
This looks like a lot of fun! My daughter is going to LOVE this! She already uses all the empty toilet paper rolls to make creatures, so tissue boxes will be even more fun!

We were supposed to use toilet paper rolls for legs, but we gave up before we got that far.
I love finding crafts for kids – where I can give them the materials and let them have at it. This looks great.
