A Clean Childhood
As a child, my family didn't have a lot of money. I remember my parents saying that we couldn't have the best of the best and we didn't have many name brand clothes. But something I always remember is that my mom was brand loyal when it came to household and personal care items. She taught us about personal hygiene and how to be healthy. I remember we always had Dial Gold bar soap in the house and we never bought anything different.
Affording Hygiene Products
When I was in college, I had to pay my own way (for the most part) and it was difficult for me to train myself to change the way I shopped and find new, more affordable products for my household. I can remember calling my older sister and crying to her because I didn't have $1 to buy a bottle of shampoo. Thankfully, at that time it was only me and I didn't have to worry about how I would buy hygiene products for kids or worry if my child would be ridiculed at school because he was the "stinky kid".
Good Hygiene and Healthy Children
Now that I am a mom and I have to think about these things more carefully, I am also thankful that Hubby and I have the means to provide for our son. It breaks my heart to think that some families worry about this all the time and don't have the financial stability to choose the best hygiene basics for their children.
Feel Confident and Successful at School
This month, I am joining Dial and Champions for Kids to hold a donation drive for hygiene products for kids!! I'm asking that my friends, family, and church family help me fill a BIG ORANGE TUB with soaps, shampoos, and other personal care items to donate to The Sanctuary House and/or The Rainbow Room!!
As always, I headed to Walmart to kickstart my donation drive and was thrilled to find TONS of Dial soap on Rollback. With the awesome $0.98 and $2.97 prices, I was able to gather up a great beginner's donation. Check out my #DialCFK shopping Google Album where you will see the BIG ORANGE TUB!!
I can't wait to see if we can fill the BIG ORANGE TUB and help the families in need in Anderson county!!
Hygiene Products for Kids Donation Drive
Sanctuary House in Palestine, TX
Most of the homeless in our East Texas area are women, left with small to school age children, no transportation and no money. We also have homeless who are disabled and some are elderly. Each night, in America, 800,000 men, women and children sleep in our streets, abandoned cars and buildings or in shelters. The greatest increase in the homeless population is in the rural areas of our country.
My hope for this donation drive is that I can gather hygiene products for kids, women, and men in East Texas who are being served by The Sanctuary House in Palestine, TX. I have heard that they are struggling and are possibly considering closing soon. I will find out this weekend at church when I talk to the caretaker for The Sanctuary House and will share that information in my donation post coming next week! If that is the case, I will donate to The Rainbow Room with Child Protective Services in Anderson County. I have talked about The Rainbow Room and donated to them in the past with SIMPLE Service Projects.
You can be One of Millions, too!!
Participating in a SIMPLE Service Project with Champions for Kids is easy, fun, and so rewarding.
Find an organization in your area and create your own Dial Into Giving Hygiene Products for Kids Donation Drive!! Tell me all about it, and I'll write about it here on the blog! Report it on the Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project page, too! Tell Champions for Kids on their Facebook Page, and tweet them @Champions4Kids on Twitter.
How can you help provide hygiene products for kids in your community – can you fill a Big Orange Tub?!!
