Family Fun {Make a Child’s Journal}
The Boy and I were looking for some family fun today and we decided we were going to head out to Walmart and pick up some supplies to make a journal for him. He used to make a new journal every month at daycare and it was so much fun to see what he had been thinking everyday at the end of the month. Hubby and I have been talking about taking him to see the movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, because he sees the commercials and cracks up every time. This reminded me of the journals he used to make so I knew he would love this craft for the weekend.
The Boy and I headed out to Walmart to pick up a few things for our journal craft and we saw that Walmart has the first two Wimpy Kid movies. I’m thinking we may need to rent or buy these two first before seeing Dog Days in the theater. My boy is just now starting to watch “real people” movies rather than cartoon movies so it’s hit-n-miss whether he will want to sit for the entire movie. It’s looking like rain here today so maybe we’ll just pick these up when we bring Daddy home from work tonight. We need a Family Fun Movie Night because it has been a while!!
While we were at Walmart, we had to pick up a few other things like dog food and fish food and my boy has been asking for more fruit cups since we made the Fruit & Yogurt Smoothies last week. I thought this would be a good snack for us to have while we made his journal and tonight while Daddy is making enchiladas!! The Del Monte fruit cup section of our store was pretty bare, but they had several flavors so I stacked them together for The Boy to choose. He picked peaches again!!
**To see what other flavors are available or find out more about Del Monte, become a fan of Del Monte on Facebook or follow @DelMonteFoods on Twitter.**
We headed home with some art paper and markers and started making the first few pages of the journal. I asked my boy to make a family portrait, but he wanted me to do it so he handed me the colors he wanted on the page and I drew the family. The two animals are supposed to be our dogs, Molly and Abby, but they look a little like cats, I think.
While I was drawing the family, he was drawing several other pages in the journal (these may or may not end up in a Wordless Wednesday post soon!) and this one is of our betta fish, Coach. I love that he remembered Coach because I completely forgot even though we just had to buy fish food.
Just in case you’re wondering, we don’t look ANYTHING like stick people, but I wasn’t about to draw giant ovals for our family portrait!! This is a picture of us heading to my husband’s brother’s wedding (no, my husband did not wear stained shorts – he changed into a tuxedo once we got there).
I definitely think tonight calls for a Family Fun Movie Night. We’re a silly, crazy family and actually this photo booth picture portrays us much better!! I can’t wait to show Hubby the journal that we made.
What do you do for Family Fun?!!
Would your child love to have his/her own journal?!!

i love this idea! for family fun we play Wii ..we have family movie night or go camping! My daughter does keep a journal but she forgets to journal and i really need to remind her weekly to write..the ones she has finished i have stored away to show her when shes older
My daughter has always had what we call her Anne-isms. Here is one.
While we were passing a laundry mat she asked, ” why would people wash their coins?” as she red the sign that said coin laundry.
Here is another one;
We were in a fast food restaurant and she got me my drink. I usually drink iced tea but this place didn’t have any so she got me fruit punch. She came back with my drink and said to me ” Mommy, this is good for you. It doesn’t have any carbs.” On the machine under the fruit punch label it said ‘non-carb’.
When she was little, she loved to play in the bath tub. For awhile she didn’t take a bath only played in the tub. So One day I said to her, “now remember to get washed first, and use soap!” She replied, “But Mommy do I have to? I did last year!”
Gotta Love her!!!

I love the Anne-isms, so fun!!
Me and my daughter took my 2 grandchildren to walmart to buy the newest diary of a whimpy kid for my grandson and since it was his birthday, he had his own money, so as we got up to the register, he wanted to pay “all on his own”, at 11 years old we didn’t see any issues with it, so we let him. As he got done checking out and the checker gave him his correct change, he was standing there counting it, he then looked up and was holding a one dollar bill, he asked his mom…”what is a boner?” she said “omg, where did you hear that?”, he said ” I didn’t hear it mom, it’ written on my money” LOL someone had used a marker and put a “B” on one side and a “R” on the other side where it said “ONE” on the back of the dollar bill, I nearly peed it was so funny, and what was great was there was a ton of people at walmart of course and my daughter was standing there with a bright red face…I still laugh about it!!!!
OMG, that is hilarious!! Congrats on getting him to 11 without him knowing what a boner is, haha!! Thanks for the laugh…I love it!!
What we do for family fun is usually watch movies and play board games. Also, we love card games! My child is far to young for a journal, all he would do at this point is tear pages and gum the binding. But someday, I’m sure he’ll love it.
My son and I make new journals every year around Back to School time. We pick up composition books at Walmart which are often as cheap as 25 cents each. We take words out of magazines with bright sayings and cover the composition books with them.

It’s a great idea for kids to do a journal. Helps with reading and writing and drawing and is fun for parents to see.
I love seeing what is on his mind everyday. Last Monday he was so excited to see all the school buses and that day he drew a great colorful bus just for me!
I love down to earth people and your family looks great…I’d fit right in with y’all
Super cute family drawing. Love the fish. We absolutely love DOAWK and Del Monte! Their fruit cups are yummy!
