The King’s Bread Pudding {Unusual Bacon Dessert}
You know the “talk of the town” in food lately seems to be a lot about bacon, especially bacon featured in desserts!! Hubby and I were just watching the Food Network show, Chopped, last night and the dessert round basket had pancetta in it. We just giggled at it after the past two weeks we have had and the bacon theme we’ve been living.
I know, you think I’ve arrived at Crazy by now, but let me explain.
A fellow blogger, Staci, at 7 on a shoestring, was running this contest a couple of weeks ago for Petit Jean Meats called Unusual Bacon Desserts. The contest entries included making a

and creating an unusual dessert using bacon. I wanted so badly to put together a Chopped-like basket for my husband and challenge him to create something, but he reminded me that we don’t keep a stocked kitchen like on the show and the chances are that he would have to shop again if he was going to make something. We decided to work together a little on it and by this I mean, I told him that I wanted chocolate in it, it had to have bacon in it, and everything else was up to him.
{Don’t you just love that team work?!}
I knew we needed to use Petit Jean Meats because we have tried the ham and loved it so much. We haven’t been able to find it here yet so we decided to order it online. I had heard that KountrySpecialties.com sold Dallas Cowboys gift packs that would be perfect for this.
I have honestly never thought to order meat online to have it delivered, but I knew that it could be done. I’ve had ice cream delivered before so I understand the basic concept. The companies package in styrofoam and use either ice packs or dry ice and mark it perishable – it works.
I ordered this Dallas Cowboys Gift Pack because it had bacon and the ham we loved during Easter, along with some smoked sausage that Hubby would like and some deer sausage that my dad would really enjoy.
We were so excited when the package arrived through UPS and clearly marked as perishable. Even though the UPS driver kept it on his truck until 8pm on delivery day, the package was still cold!!
The meat inside was cold and there were four ice packs in it. Some of the meat was even still frozen!! I love the packaging on this meat. I was raised as a Dallas Cowboys fan so seeing that big blue star just brings me back to my childhood.
As another side note, my aunt who lives in Arkansas saw me talking about PJM and she canNOT stop raving about it!! Stay tuned in the next couple of days to see my yummy turkey burgers with PJM peppered bacon!!
YIPPEE!! We get to make our Bacon Dessert!!
Hubby used his new favorite “toy” – Cook’n Recipe Organizer – and found a bread pudding recipe on JoyofCooking.com. Before we could actually start cooking, we had just a little more shopping to do. We took a screenshot from the printable shopping list and headed to Walmart.
