Creating an Active Lifestyle for Children in Need
My little family has experienced quite a few changes this month and we are having the best time!! I mentioned earlier this month that my son was starting T-ball and we were hoping to encourage a sports equipment drive with his new T-ball team.
We were a little hesitant after the first practice so we didn’t really talk to anyone about it at that time. By the time we got to the second practice, things went well so we talked to a couple of the parents about the sports equipment drive. Coach asked us if the team would be interested in a bonus scrimmage game and we were all on board so I told them all I would bring the information to the practice on Friday.
During practice on Friday, I told the parents about the Odwalla Game Day Challenge and we all decided to bring our donations to the game on Saturday.
The Braves had their first T-ball game and did great!!
That’s my boy on third base – he was thrown out trying to make it to home.
My boy played right field and knew to hold his stance. He was slightly sad that the ball never came to him.
Since April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, I thought this would be a great time to make a large donation to the Rainbow Room at my office – Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (Child Protective Services).
Rainbow Room
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to CPS caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. To find out more about Rainbow Rooms in Texas, visit Greater Texas Community Partners.
Sports Equipment Drive
We got a few donations of sport equipment, but we also had the toys and activities from our shopping trip, so after the game we headed home for a bath and some rest and then took the donations to the CPS office to drop off at the Rainbow Room!!
As you can see the Rainbow room is geared toward smaller children and there isn’t much for activity in here. There were a few board games and baby toys so our donation will definitely help the children in our area.
My boy’s favorite donation – a giant playground ball!!

Thank YOU so much for the inspiration to get our kids more active and help children in need!! Your SIMPLE Service Projects are doing God’s work!!
I think it is so awesome that you did this, and way to go for asking other parents to help out, as well! Your son is so cute and looks so happy. I think it is wonderful that you are teaching him at a young age to help others in need. Thank you for the post.

He had a great time and loves coming to “work” with Mommy to give to the Rainbow Room!!
I think it’s AWESOME that you’re getting the little man involved while he’s young!!
We donate all old books, toys etc to the woman’s shelter… I think it’s important to help them help themselves!
1/4 of all items I get while doing the ‘coupon gig’ gets boxed up every month and we take that over too. It’s SO easy to do and, really… we all should be doing it!
Great post!!

I think it’s awesome that you are couponing for good!! I have wanted to do that, but we just run out of time in our busy life. We also donate to the Battered Women’s shelter in town with our used items. The Rainbow Room only takes new items so we share our donations.
What a great program! We donate clothes all the time – but I bet if I look around we could do more (with fun stuff like toys and sports equipment).

Absolutely!! The kids in foster care LOVE getting new things, no matter what it is!!
I love that you are teaching your son about giving back by doing hands-on things together! You are am awesome Mom!
I donate my time and talent by doing free and fun literacy programs throughout my community. My fiancé and I dress up as pirates or cowpokes ~ really just about any book character ~ we also do Santa and Easter Bunny ~ and we present fun, interactive programs based on literacy and family togetherness. We sometimes offer crafts, snacks, and little take-home prizes so it can get a little prize-y but we LOVE doing it!
I started my blog ~ librarystorytimeabcs.blogspot.com ~ because I am hoping to share what we do with other families who don’t live near us. I am sharing all kinds of early literacy information and fun learning ideas to promote a love of reading and family togetherness. Hope I can reach lots of young families through my real-life volunteering and now through my blog! Enjoying your time together as a family is so very important!

It really does get exciting and the kids love it!!
We help out with clothing drives and canned food drives. We have been a recipient of the food bank in the past and know how valuable a resource it can be.

We have too!! I’m thinking out next SIMPLE Service is going to be food bank related!!
Congrats for going out on a limb and asking the other parents to join in with making donations for those in need. It’s great that your son is already learning the importance of giving to others and of doing it as a group. It’s true that we can always get more done when we put our powers toward good!

We don’t really do much community work, too busy homeschooling and family time but I do want to start with my kids because let’s face it, they are too spoiled. I want them to learn how to serve others. We do every year gathering toys and needed item for Operation Christmas Child who send boxes to needy children in impoverished countries.
I love the idea of the ALL YOU Couponing for Good. I love finding deals and could do this with my kids for a shelter for women and kids that I had helped out when I was a child with my family.

We donate to our Women and Children shelter as much as we can. They have a thrift store as well so we donate and then go in to find more goodies to take home!!
Your son is so cute and what a great idea for teaching about giving back!

Thank you so much!!
Super nice! Such a good cause. It is so important to have children involved in the giving! I feel that makes them givers for life! I donate to the local care center Love Inc. all items are sold at a very reasonable fee to provide food for the community. T Ball brings back such sweet memories! My son Jason 1st time up to bat – hit the ball way out in the right field! Then he ran to 3rd base instead of 1st! I still remember how proud we were! Even going to 3rd ..1st – he turned around and ran all the way around to home plate! Home RUN!
We are really enjoying the first year T-ball!! My boy did a little bit of butterfly chasing and grass picking today.
What a fabulous project! Looks like lots of fun.

WOW, this is fabulous! Stuff like that is critical! Making kids feel like kids at the scariest time in their lives is essential. You and your boy rock!

You have such a big heart. It’s wonderful all the things you do for people. I usually donate through my church to the Pflugerville Pregnancy Center.

Such a great cause!! I donated 3 tubs of my boy’s baby clothes (through my life group) to the pregnancy center and it made me so sad…until I heard how much they were appreciative and amazed at the big donation.
