Konsyl Psyllium Dietary Fiber Review

I’m going to get a little personal here, you had to see that coming when you saw a picture of Fiber, right?

I have constipation…all.the.time!! It runs in my mother’s side of the family along with anxiety (probably related) and I have it. I’ll tell you that unless I am paying very close attention to the fiber in my diet, I may not “go” more than once a week. Yep, that’s no fun!!

I also have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation, but I haven’t been able to find a medicine that works. The best remedy I have ever found is eating Raisin Bran or Shredded Wheat cereal at least once or twice a day…totally not feasible.

I was contacted by Konsyl to try their products and I decided it can’t hurt and it might actually help. They offered to send me a Shaker Cup and two products of my choosing. Here is what I chose:

Konsyl Original Formula 450g – Konsyl Original Natural Fiber Supplement contains 100% pure natural psyllium fiber, with each teaspoon dose containing 6 grams of psyllium, 75% more than the leading brands. This product’s heart-healthy formula helps to lower cholesterol, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.  Each container holds a total of 450 grams, 15.9 oz, 75 teaspoons. Konsyl Original Formula contains no sugar or sugar substitutes, is gluten free and safe to take while pregnant. Konsyl Original Formula is effective in relieving occasional constipation and restoring regularity as well as providing many other digestive health benefits

Konsyl Orange Sugar Free Packets 30’s – Konsyl Orange Sugar Free Fiber Supplement Packets contain psyllium fiber with a refreshing, sugar-free orange flavor and smooth texture for a convenient and pleasant tasting way to increase daily fiber intake. The packets are effective in relieving occasional constipation and restoring regularity, producing a bowel movement in 12 to 72 hours, as well as providing many other digestive health benefits.  This product’s heart-healthy formula helps to lower cholesterol, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

I was surprised that Konsyl worked as good as the cereals I mentioned above, but I didn’t have the harsh gas that sometimes comes with eating lots of fiber or taking fiber laxatives (which don’t work for me, by the way). I found similar results with both products and the orange has a nice taste. I like that I can continue to take this if I were to get pregnant and that it’s heart healthy as well.

I know I have a few readers who are interested in Gluten Free foods and the rep for Konsyl was so nice to send me some recipes using Konsyl that I knew you all would enjoy. Check out these yummy recipes!!

Hearty Harvest Oatmeal (Gluten-Free)

1 cup cooked, old fashioned gluten-free oatmeal

1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree

1 tbsp milk (coconut, almond or otherwise)

1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice

1 tsp real vanilla extract

1 rounded tsp Konsyl Original psyllium fiber

Maple syrup, pecans, dried cranberries or raisins for toppings, if desired

Heat cooked oatmeal in pan on stovetop or in microwave until just warm.

Add the milk, pumpkin, spices, vanilla and Konsyl.

 Mix well and reheat.

If it is too thick, add 1 tbsp hot water at a time and stir until desired consistency is reached.

Top with syrup, nuts and dried fruit to your liking. Makes two servings.

Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

1 cup almond butter

1/2 cup coconut milk (canned, full fat)

2 eggs

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

zest of one orange

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup maple syrup

3 carrots, shredded

1 tbsp real vanilla extract

2 tbsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground nutmeg

1 tsp ground ginger

1/4 tsp ground cloves

pinch salt

1/4 cup Konsyl Original

1/2 cup toasted walnuts (optional)

Shred carrots and place in bowl. Cover with maple syrup and let marinate while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.

Combine the spices, baking powder, baking soda, salt and Konsyl.

In a separate bowl combine the almond butter, coconut milk, eggs, zest, and vanilla. Then add the brown sugar and stir until combine.

Add the dry ingredients, stir. Add the carrots and nuts (if using) and stir until well combined. Pour into paper lined or greased muffin tins. Bake for 22-25 minutes at 350. Will make about 24 cupcakes.

Cream Cheese Frosting

1lbs cream cheese, room temperature

4 ounces grass-fed butter (like Kerry Gold), room temperature

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp real vanilla extract

pinch of salt

Put all frosting ingredients into bowl and mix well with hand mixer for 6-8 minutes until light and fluffy.

When cupcakes are COMPLETELY cooled, frost the cupcakes.
