Featured Newbie Blogger – Saving With Scissors @swscissors

Each week at the Newbie Blog Hop, we choose a Featured Newbie to interview and get to know a little better. From the blogs that linked up in Week 17, the chosen blogger is Liz from Saving with Scissors!

Let's see how she has been dealing with blogging and learn with great advice she has to give!

Saving With Scissors
Tell me a little bit about yourself and your family.

I’m Liz, I live in a great little town outside of Raleigh, NC with my husband of 5 1/2 years and our 4 year old son. I’m an at-home mom who loves getting together with friends and family for just about any occasion.

Do you have more than one blog? If so, tell me about them!

Saving With Scissors is my only blog, although I have some plans (& dreams) to start 1 or 2 more.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since Sept 2011, going on 3 months!

Why did you start blogging? Is this also why you continue blogging?

I started blogging because I wanted to help people find deals and ways to save in their everyday lives.

Who does your blog appeal to? Is this who you thought would be your target audience?

I believe my target audience is anyone who is the main spender in their family!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope to continue to grow and to reach more people. I would eventually like to add a forum to allow users to connect and share coupons and money-saving ideas.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Growing an audience that is engaged.

What do you love about blogging?

I love that I can do it from home!

What do you NOT love about blogging?

I spend hours and hours and hours blogging! There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work to be done.

What types of product reviews and giveaways do you feature?

I’m involved in a lot of giveaways for cash, prizes and codes. Right now you can win a Kitchen-Aid mixer, $210 cash, $50 cash, $1000 cash, etc etc.

Check out my Enter To Win page.

What advice do you have for those wanting to get into this or up the value of their giveaways?

Network, network, network! Be open to new ideas. Join with other bloggers and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Besides your blog, how else can people find you? (Examples: Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn) Which method is your favorite/least favorite?

Twitter | Facebook You can also find me on Pinterest and you can Stumble me on Stumbleupon. My favorite is Facebook. My least fav is StumbleUpon b/c I’m still learning how to use it.

Share your top 3 favorite posts from your blog.

I love my tips of the day page where I post about how to coupon and save money.

I also love my recipe posts when I match a recipe with a coupon available.

I have enjoyed gathering together great deals for the holidays

Share your top 3 favorite blogs to read and why.

I don’t have much time to read other blogs, but I love blogs about design, photos and mommy-issues.

Do you have any bloggers that you consider to be mentors?
I look up to a few of the ‘BIG’ bloggers! But I’ve had help from too many to mention.
How do you find time to blog?

I blog whenever my 4 year old lets me!

What else would you like us to know?
Organization is key! It’s easy to become overwhelmed, keep a little notebook or pad of paper with you at all times to jot ideas down. Use it when you’re in a store and you spot a deal. There is a lot of information to keep track of- passwords, contest dates, blogs, etc…
What is your best advice for a Newbie Blogger?

Remember that you can’t chase every deal, every coupon, every freebie out there! Just do what you can, take breaks from the computer and take a day or two off every week –get away from the computer for your sanity!

That ends the interview! Remember that the Newbie Blog Hop opens every Tuesday at 9PM CST and closes at midnight every Friday. Come back on Tuesday if you are new to blogging so you can link up and get to know your fellow newbies. Who knows, you could be next week's featured newbie!

Be Sociable, Share!
