Mommy needs a break {on my mind all the time}
I was lying in bed with Hubby on Monday at lunch time (watching TV!!) and I just had an overwhelming feeling and blurted out: “Let’s get a babysitter and sleep in tomorrow”. He was surprised by this and asked what I meant. I told him that I wanted to send The Boy to a babysitter (aka family member because he doesn’t go to a “babysitter”) and cuddle all night and sleep in.
Hubby was quick to point out that we have to work in the morning so we couldn’t actually sleep in, but that is NOT what I meant.
I just had this feeling like I don’t want to do the Mommy Thing tonight…and this has been happening to me a lot lately. Hubby is very good at picking up my slack and he and The Boy are very good buddies.
I just really wish this feeling of “I don’t want to engage with my family” would really GO AWAY!!
I came across this meme last week and I’m so happy that I did. I want to tell my family’s story, but I just thought it might be awkward and out of place…now, who cares, I just want to tell it. Maybe I’ll feel better once it’s all out!!
My Family Story {Part 1}
Let me tell you my family’s story about how Brookshire’s (yes, the grocery store) changed my life, my marriage, my husband, and my family’s future forever!! It’s a long story so I think I’m going to break it up into several weeks, so bear with me and take the journey with us…it’s really a pretty neat story (I could be biased).
Hubby and I married in October 2007 after only knowing (yes, I said knowing) each other for five months. We met on May 1, 2007 and were married on October 6, 2007. We had the boy on February 8, 2008 (ok, take a second and do the math…now back to the story).
We were living in Austin when we met and I had a really nice apartment that he quickly moved into. I was working for the State, attending Grad School at The University of Texas for a Masters in Social Work, and Hubby was (getting a job, changing jobs, laid off) when Hubby suggested that we consider moving to my hometown.
Hubby was a chef for 20 years and I know how hard a small town (specifically my hometown) can be on a restaurant so I would not agree to move until he had secured a job.
Despite my stupid decision(s) to quit my job at the State in September 2007, I knew that I could get a job at the State anywhere I went. I had also decided to to quit Grad School even though I was doing really well and in the internship phase, and then Hubby was laid off only weeks later (and weeks before our wedding). We were lost…
So, in late September, Hubby interviewed at a country club and very quickly was offered a job as a sous chef!! He was actually called back while we were on our semi-honeymoon and had to report to the country club the next week!!
He went and I stayed to pack up our apartment…
Have you ever come across a time in your life when you just didn’t think that things were going to get any better, you’ve reached the point where you think you are going to put your foot down and that’s the final word, only to have your life changed in a way that you never dreamed?
Is there one thing, person, place, or event that you can give some credit to for that change?
I really know how that is. Shortly after my husband and i got married we had it rough. We both became unemployed and had to live in a hotel for a couple of weeks and the car. I also get into that mood where i dont want to do the mommy thing and i need a break.
yes rough times happen a lot in my house but how you get through it as a family makes the difference, i think as a family if you stick together through hard times i think it makes those hard times easier to get through
good days and bad days works out in the end
We all have those days…especially at this age. My daughter is about 6 months older than your son, and all I can say is that more days than not, the whining and non-stop arguing push me to my breaking point and I just want to run away. Some days I do (to the movies with a friend, or to a friend’s house, or even to my parents’ house where she can beg them for attention and she pays no attention to me). I definitely recommend a night off…or two. Would a relative be willing to watch your son over the weekend for a chance for y’all to reconnect?

I have some really great relatives in town who take care of him at times. I think I’m just too embarrassed to ask for help. They probably wish I would more often…
It’s when life’s unexpected challenges build our character. It’s funny, because one of the things I’m learning most right now is that my expectations or plans are almost never God’s plan. I think something will look or be one way, and it ends up being the polar opposite?? I can really relate to this post.
Also, I hope you get a break soon. It helps to break away sometimes. I stopped by from Shell’s PYHO.
Thank you…I have noticed too that my plan is almost never God’s plan…I should just start expecting the opposite…
A) I can totally relate to the desire to disengage from the family. Sometimes it’s all just too much. I don’t even really know what I do to satisfy that desire. Well…my kids watch a lot of TV.
B) I am totally intrigued by your story. Glad you decided to tell it.

Thank you so much!! I’m a little nervous that people don’t really care, but at least it will be there in case anyone wants to follow it now…or in the future (when I’m a super blog that “everyone” wants to read…hahahaha!!!!)
Giggling a little at your math.
Life has definitely thrown me for a loop more times than I can count!

It’s funny when you start to tell people dates and they get this look on their face…although most people don’t care anymore (not sure if that’s a good thing for our society)
I have those days too. It’s natural. You should just have a no-mommy day. Maybe that will help you miss him and feel better about things.
That sounds really nice!! I really think that maybe I’m just down and this, too, will pass…Thanks for the encouragement!!
You are not alone…hop on over to my blog if you get the chance.
Met October 08 – Married January 09 – The Babe born July 09
How about that for math

Hmm…sounds like your math is very similar to my math…
I will certainly be by to check out your blog!! So happy to hear that I’m not alone!!
I think we all get in those moods from time to time. Hang in there it will pass!
Thanks, Brittney!!
