If you want clean clothes, I might just have to burn the house down!!
I am connecting with Julia at Work, Wife, Mom… Life! today for
What three objects would you save first if your house caught fire?
For the first year and a half of our marriage, I did all the laundry in our household. Being two large people, it was quite a feat to keep up with it all and then add in a new baby and a washing machine that was in the garage down two life-threatening dangerous steps onto concrete floors… I’ve never been great at keeping up with laundry in general, but this was kicking my butt!
I had a very demanding and stressful job and Hubby worked on the weekends so I never had a time alone to “catch up” when I wasn’t entertaining a baby or a dog or trying to catch up on sleep. Hubby had these days off during the week when he would sleep all day and then try to do a small chore just before I came home with the baby to show that he did something.
After a little while, though, I finally impressed upon him that he could help by doing some things around the house on his days off. I started with a list, but he never really stuck to it. However, he was getting things done.
Fast forward to now, four years into our marriage, and he is the house keeper of our family. He takes care of the cleaning and cooking and occasionally he actually has to leave me a list (which rarely gets done).
When I started my new position at work that is much less demanding and I basically sit at a desk all day and read or type, he began to hint that he could use some help. You know, sitting at a desk all day reading and typing can be tiring too!! You fellow bloggers know what I mean…I know Rosilind over at Time 4 Mommy Community can empathize!!
So…I have begun to help, once again, with laundry and, once again, I’m pretty terrible at it. I cannot remember to take the dang lint out of the dang lint trap in the dang dryer!! I get a lecture everytime I have done laundry and then Hubby has to finish it up.
To make matters worse, he got the full-fledged support from my Stepmom last weekend when she started lecturing me as well and telling me about people who have burned down their houses due to not removing the lint from the dryer. She even added that it makes the dryer work harder, uses more electricity, and doesn’t get the clothes dry as fast.
Okay, okay, okay!!!
Well then…what about when you cook dinner and leave the oven on? Or when you can’t cook a dinner without creating smoke so the smoke detector goes off so you unplug it? Or when the smoke detector in the hall needs a new battery and instead of replacing it, you just unplug it too?
Now…what would I take if the house was on fire?
My child, my coupon binder, and my laptop!!
**Hubby doesn’t normally read my posts, but I figure the title of this one will most likely catch his eye so, babe, I’m sorry…I’ll try to do better.
What lectures do you get to hear all the time from your loved ones? What lectures do you give out TO your loved ones? Do you ever forget to clean the lint out of the dang lint trap…?!!
Glad I’m not the only one who gets lectured! I get an ear-full when i leave lights on or leave the door open for too long so that I “air-condition the world.”
Haha!! I have recently been getting…why don’t you stop blogging and go to bed…
I don’t really get lectured as much as just pointedly reminded to do something. Often. Remember to wash this or take care of that. I admit, I let the ball drop on a lot of things (I suppose that’s what a new baby will do to you, right?). The reminders are needed, I suppose. But they do get annoying after a while. Partly because I can’t believe I managed to forget something again (I don’t know how many times I’ve had to rewash a load of laundry because I left it sitting too long in the washer) and partly because no one likes any form of nagging. C’est la vie, oui?
Oh…I have the worst memory EVER!! I get so wrapped up in playing or reading blogs or whatever…it drives my husband crazy!!
work is exhausting no matter what your job is!! my hubby is a stay at home dad and he HAS to keep up with the stuff. and ‘m so grateful. like you, he even has to tell me what to do sometimes!!

My husband would make a really good stay at home dad (but NOT ME!!)…maybe someday!!
I get these lectures too – not about the lint, though, but about leaving the porch light on. Hubby works late and usually doesn’t get home until well after the sun has set…and I’m horrible at putting the porch light on. I mean, I get home and I’m exhausted but I have to immediately begin entertaining the children. Sure the switch is right inside the front door, but it is difficult to get to when I have to pick up a toddler and a infant before they start screaming their heads off!! He will just have to fumble with his keys in the dark!

I totally understand that!! My husband is the BEST at engaging our son in the work or activities…I don’t know how he does it!!
I used to neglect the dryer trap until I didn’t have a working dryer during Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Now I am a little more diligent. My husband hates that I don’t take his clothes to the dry cleaners because my ironing isn’t up to par. I just tell him that he isn’t made of money and if he wants great service, the iron and ironing board are always looking for extra employees.
Haha!!! That’s hilarious!! I’ve gone without a dryer before and it is not fun!
